Malachi Durant, Washington's No. 1 wide receiver, commits to Oregon State Beavers

When talking to Oregon State Beavers wide receiver targets, coach Kefense Hynson almost inevitably comes up as a major factor.

They find him personable, direct and forward-thinking.

In recent weeks, Hynson has flexed his recruitment muscles.

Last week, Oregon State added fast-rising Palma (California) wide receiver Logan Saldate, who finished second in state in the long jump, highlighting his athletic prowess.

On Monday, the Beavers added another talented wide receiver, as Graham-Kapowsin (Washington) three-star pass-catcher Malachi Durant announced his decision following an official visit this weekend:

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound pass-catcher is rated the nation's No. 80 wide receiver, the No. 1 wide receiver in Oregon/Washington and the No. 11 player in Washington overall.

Durant trains with elite 7-on-7 program Ford Sports Performance, a go-to source of recruiting talent for the Beavers in recent years.

FSP CEO Tracy Ford feels Durant can address a key need for Oregon State. 

"I think Oregon State did a really good job of building a pipeline with FSP," he said. "They picked up Andre Piper-Jordan and (some others) recently. They are doing a good job. Malachi is going to come in and be a bigger presence. He's going to come in and be a bigger body receiver who can go up and get a 50-50 ball, and he makes plays after the catch." 

Over the course of his recruitment, Durant earned scholarship offers from Arizona, BYU, California, Fresno State, Missouri, Oregon, Washington, Washington State and others.

With its latest addition, the Beavers have four pledges in their 2024 recruiting class, as Durant joins Saldate, McKinney (Texas) three-star running back Makhi Frazier and Homestead (California) three-star tight end Wyatt Hook.
