Mario Buford, 4-star cornerback, commits to Nebraska Cornhuskers

Nebraska adds its second bluechip prospect of the 2024 recruiting cycle

At the Elite 11 Eugene regional in late April, DeSoto (Texas) four-star cornerback Mario Buford was extremely high on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

But the 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back also expressed a desire to take as many official visits as possible before making a decision.

Turns out, he only needed to make one trip.

Follow last weekend's official visit to Lincoln, the nation's No. 28 cornerback quickly set a commitment date and shut down his recruitment, announcing a commitment to Matt Rhule's program Thursday evening.

Not without a little drama, however.

Announcing his decision on Instagram, Buford originally took off his DeSoto shirt to reveal Oregon Ducks gear, flashing the Oregon "O" with his hands.

He then shook his head, took off the Oregon shirt to reveal Nebraska gear.

Buford chose the Cornhuskers over fellow finalists Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan State, Oregon, Penn State and Washington.

HIs commitment gives Nebraska a pair of bluechip defensive back recruits in the 2024 recruiting class, as he joins Rice Consolidated (Texas) four-star athlete/safety Roger Gradney.

Since hiring Rhule, the Cornhuskers have added six bluechip prospects, highlighted by the signing of Lincoln East (Nebraska) four-star athlete Malachi Coleman, a dynamic 6-foot-4, 190-pound pass-catcher with sky-high potential.
