Peyton Woodyard, St. John Bosco 4-star safety and Georgia pledge, visiting USC Trojans this weekend

Don't count out the USC Trojans just yet.

St. John Bosco (California) four-star safety Peyton Woodyard has been committed to the Georgia Bulldogs since early January.

But this weekend, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back is taking an official visit to USC:

Woodyard is rated the nation's No. 4 safety and No. 69 overall prospect in the composite rankings.

For USC, the St. John Bosco star's recruitment is worth monitoring closely.

Why?

Georgia is experiencing a logjam at the safety position in the 2024 class even if one factors in position versatility with a few of it pledges.

Currently, the Bulldogs have commitments from three of the nation's top six safeties - Jaylen Heyward (No. 3), Woodyard (No. 4) and Demello Jones (No. 6).

This weekend, Kirby Smart's program is also hosting Buford (Georgia) five-star safety K.J. Bolden, the nation's No. 1 prospect at the position, on an official visit and the Bulldogs are believed to be a serious threat to land the in-state talent.

It is highly unlikely Georgia is going to take four safeties in the 2024 class, so something has got to give, and it seems Woodyard is content looking at his options.

This month, the hard-hitting safety has scheduled official visits to USC (June 9), Ohio State (June 16) and Alabama (June 23), having already taken his official visit to Athens.

In other words, a second recruitment appears to be underway.

USC's eight-man 2024 recruiting class is ranked No. 21 nationally and consists of just one safety pledge, Clearwater (Florida) four-star prospect Jarvis Boatwright.
