The Oregon Ducks are hosting a key official visit weekend and have already secured a commitment before the trips come to an end.

On Sunday morning, Grant Union (California) four-star safety Kingston Lopa, a former Arizona pledge, announced his commitment to Oregon:

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound versatile defender is rated the nation's No. 224 overall prospect and No. 19 safety. During the recruiting process, he picked up nearly 20 scholarship offers, highlighted by Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, USC and others.

Lopa originally committed to Arizona in January, but re-opened his recruitment in early April, posting a message on social media.

"(First) and foremost I want to thank God for putting me in this amazing position," he wrote. " As I go through the recruiting process I understand this is a major decision for me and my family. At this time I am de-committing from the University of Arizona. I want to thank all the coaches for everything but also want them to know that they are very much still one of my top choices. I just feel at this time I want to explore all my options before making my final choice."

Since that time, Lopa has added a fourth star and been the discussion of much debate between evaluators.

Is he a safety or a linebacker?

Oregon, it seems, prefers him a the safety position, while Washington, the program Lopa was expected to visit next, projected him as a 'backer.

He is the second safety in Oregon's 2024 recruiting class, joining Forney (Texas) four-star prospect Aaron Flowers.

Overall, Dan Lanning and his coaching staff have assembled the nation's No. 6 recruiting class, although there are still several months to move up or down before the December early signing period.
