Jamonta Waller, 5-star edge-rusher, commits to Florida Gators, keeps hot streak rolling

No program in the country is hotter on the recruiting trail than the Florida Gators.

Florida has landed seven commitments since the start of the weekend and its 2024 recruiting class has climbed to the No. 5 collection of talent in the country.

But the Gators made their biggest splash yet Monday evening, as Picayune Memorial (Mississippi) five-star edge-rusher Jamonta Waller announced his commitment.

"FAMILY - means having someone to love you unconditionally in spite of your shortcomings," he wrote. "It also means investing in relationships and practicing trust. So I’m trusting my new Family (Florida Gators. 1000% COMMITTED." 

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker is rated the nation's No. 28 overall prospect and No. 5 edge-rusher and chose Florida over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Penn State, Tennessee and others.

As a junior, he registered 106 tackles and 11.5 sacks. 

Waller is the third five-star prospect in Florida's class (so far), joining Willis (Texas) quarterback D.J. Lagway and McKinney (Texas) safety Xavier Filsaime. 

Equally impressive, Florida's "average rating per commit" (92.39) is higher than both Michigan (No. 2; 90.71) and Notre Dame (No. 4; 90.65), who both boast top-five classes nationally. 

in other words, Billy Napier's program is likely to remain in contention for a top-5 - or better - recruiting class the rest of the way.
