Jerrae Hawkins, 4-star wide receiver, discusses top 3, pushes back decision slightly

IMG Academy (Florida) four-star wide receiver Jerrae Hawkins plans to push back his decision

IMG Academy (Florida) four-star wide receiver Jerrae Hawkins has a tough decision to make.

But he's beginning to whittle down his options.

On Wednesday, the blazing fast 5-foot-9, 165-pound slot receiver indicated that he plans to push his commitment date back from June 26 to July 1 and named a top three of Florida, Miami and Penn State.

"I'm going to move it back to July 1," he said. "Most likely. I'm going to let everyone know (soon)."

Given that Hawkins has already taken official visits to both Florida and Miami, and will visit Penn State officially this weekend, that top three is far from a surprise.

The IMG Academy star is rated the nation's No. 178 overall prospect and No. 28 wide receiver and projects as a slot receiver at the college level.

Last season, he racked up 67 receptions for 1,127 yards and 14 scores for an IMG Academy program that was among the best in the nation.

This week, Hawkins broke down what he liked about each of his finalists.

In general, however, he said he ready to put an end to the process.

"It's definitely going to be a relief," Hawkins said. "It can be overwhelming - all the coaches texting you, the interviews... I'm ready to get it over with, honestly."

Florida: "I've been there twice. I like Florida a lot. A couple things I like about Florida are the way they develop talent and how I'd be developed to me the best me. Another thing is track. They'll let me run track there, too. That's kind of a plus. It would be cool to win national championships in two different sports. That would be big."

Miami: "I've been there twice, and my last trip was the first week of June. It was good. I like the offense and how their offense is. That's one thing I like about it. And I like the receiver coach. We talk a lot."

Penn State (official visit this weekend):  "I've been there four or five times. it's been a good relationship. They were one of my first offers, so we have a good relationship."

"I feel like this trip is very crucial, because from my last visit they moved up high on my list, so I'm really going to have to compare them to see which one (stands out)."
