Prediction: Oregon Ducks to secure commitment from key official visitor

For several months, the Oregon Ducks have seemed to be the clear-cut leader for Campbell Hall (California) four-star linebacker Kamar Mothudi.

But there was still one big hurdle remaining to secure his commitment.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound defender, rated the nation's No. 174 overall prospect and No. 17 linebacker, wanted to "compare and contrast" his top choices after taking official visits.

Mothudi spent the month of June taking those trips - Utah, Michigan State, Washington and finally Oregon this weekend.

Prior to his trip to Eugene, Mothudi didn't mince words about how important this weekend's official visit to Oregon would be. 

“I think it definitely, definitely comes down to this visit,” he said. “If they show me everything they’ve shown me in the past and more, then it’s a done deal.” 

The California product was also quick to point out that his first three official visits set the bar pretty high.

Still, given Oregon's stellar "batting average" with official visitors, that sentiment was probably enough for most Duck fans to assume Mothudi's commitment was only a matter of time.

So far, it looks like it has been a home run, as Mothudi was able to connect with former Oregon. star Kayvon Thibodeaux to pick his brain about his time at Oregon and his development:

When? That depends.

The California product said he hoped to take his official visits then make a decision. Given that Oregon was his last trip, a commitment could come at any time.

Will it be the Ducks? It certainly seems like a very likely outcome at this point.

"Mothudi is one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects who was getting some looks at running back early on as well. He rushed for over 1,400 yards and scored 18 touchdowns as a junior but his future is at linebacker and his upside is extremely high. He’s a three-sport athlete who also plays basketball and runs track and is just coming in to his own. He has an ideal linebacker frame at about 6-3, 215 pounds and shows the positional versatility to play inside or outside and could even grow in to an edge rusher. He’s athletic enough to get looks as a safety but we think playing as a will ‘backer might be his meal ticket because of his ability to play in space and cover."
