Carter Nelson, nation's No. 2 tight end, sets Wednesday commitment; Nebraska the favorite

Ainsworth (Nebraska) four-star tight end Carter Nelson is ready to announce his commitment

One of the highest-rated Nebraska high school football prospects in modern history is set to come off the board.

Ainsworth (Nebraska) star Carter Nelson, the nation's No. 40 overall prospect and No. 2 tight end, is set to announce his commitment Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. CT/9:30 a.m. PT at a ceremony at his high school:

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound pass-catcher spent June taking official visits to Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State and. most recently, Nebraska, but also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and others.

Currently, all signs point to Nelson choosing the Cornhuskers.

Matt Rhule and his coaching staff have already secured the three of the top four in-state recruits in the class of 2024 - Bellevue West quarterback Daniel Kaelin and wide receiver duo Dae'vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris.

But there are strong rumblings that Nebraska has completed the clean sweep this weekend with a commitment from Nelson.

And the recruiting industry agrees - with a flurry of predictions coming in on multiple recruiting sites.

If Nebraska were to land Nelson, it would be a massive addition.

The eight-man football star accumulated 663 yards and 15 touchdowns passing, 761 yards and 14 scores rushing and added 525 yards and 11 touchdowns receiving.

More important, it would be a massive recruiting flex for Rhule, who also secured Lincoln East (Nebraska) top-100 prospect Malachi Coleman in the 2023 cycle.

Nelson would be one of the highest-rated overall pledges and arguably the top in-state acquisition in modern program history.
