Kamar Mothudi, 4-star linebacker, commits to Oregon Ducks

Los Alamitos (California) four-star prospect Kamar Mothudi is Oregon's second major linebacker addition this month

There was a time when Los Alamitos (California) linebacker Kamar Mothudi wasn't considered a major prospect by the recruiting services.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound athlete had generated plenty of buzz, but wasn't seen as a bluechip prospect.

Despite that, one program recruited him like he was an All-American-caliber talent.

The Oregon Ducks.

That treatment resonated, and Tuesday the now-four-star prospect announced his commitment to Dan Lanning's program over fellow finalists Michigan State, Texas, Utah and Washington.

For Mothudi, that interest began in earnest with the way Oregon approached him before he had the stars next to his name.

“They made me feel like a priority," he said. "They offered when my recruitment  just started taking off. I don’t know if I was even ranked or anything. The schools that were offering me treated me like a less-recruited guy. But Oregon was on me and recruited me the same way they recruited D-Will [Dylan Williams]."

The comparison is somewhat fitting given that both players have committed to Oregon this month, giving the Ducks a pair of bluechip 'backers in their 2024 class.

The duo, who play together in 7-on-7 action for Premium Sports, have discussed what it would be like to share the field in college.

"We've definitely talked about it," Mothudi said. "I play 7-on-7 with him. That's my guy. We have great chemistry. I'm excited to call him my teammate. We just talked about how much fun it's going to be and how strong our defense is going to be with us both at 'backer."

While Mothudi's public announcement makes it official, he actually committed last month.

"I committed during my (official visit)," Mothudi said. "My OV was really just to make sure and reaffirm everything I already knew about Oregon. The main thing (on that visit) was checking on the after-football aspect."

Mothudi intends to graduate early an enroll at Oregon In January.

What are the Ducks getting?

As a junior, he racked up 111 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, four sacks and two interceptions on defense with 1,617 yards and 18 touchdowns running the football.

Here's what 247Sports had to say in its scouting report:

"Mothudi is one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects who was getting some looks at running back early on as well. He rushed for over 1,400 yards and scored 18 touchdowns as a junior but his future is at linebacker and his upside is extremely high. He’s a three-sport athlete who also plays basketball and runs track and is just coming in to his own. He has an ideal linebacker frame at about 6-3, 215 pounds and shows the positional versatility to play inside or outside and could even grow in to an edge rusher. He’s athletic enough to get looks as a safety but we think playing as a will ‘backer might be his meal ticket because of his ability to play in space and cover."
