Gatlin Bair, elite wide receiver and sprinter, sets commitment date; Boise State, Michigan, Oregon among top contenders

One of the nation's fastest high school athletes is set to come off the board.

On Thursday, Burley (Idaho) four-star wide receiver and elite sprinter Gatlin Bair announced an August 5 commitment date and a list of five finalists - Boise State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon and TCU:

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound playmaker, who ran a jaw-dropping 10.18 100-meter time at the Texas Relays this spring, is rated the nation's No. 39 overall prospect and No. 9 wide receiver.

Of note, Bair is a member of the LDS church and will be taking a two-year Mission that will begin in January after graduating high school early. He is also planning on playing football only at the collegiate level. 

Bair has been on a meteoric rise in the recruiting rankings over the past 18 months, climbing from No, 294 overall last spring to nearing five-star status currently.

During that time, Bair has seen a similar rise in his recruiting profile and took June official visits to Michigan, Oregon and TCU.

Still, Boise State, Michigan and Oregon may be the teams to beat with just a few weeks remaining.

Bair discussed those schools earlier this spring:

Boise State: "Boise State is really unique. They develop guys at a high level. You see a lot of low-level recruits going to Boise State and then going to the NFL. That stands out... how well they develop. The opportunity to make it a normal thing for the top recruit in Idaho to go to Boise State. ...And be one of the first (bluechip) guys to develop really well there and show they can develop high-level guys, too... it'd be cool to make that a normal thing."

Michigan: “Michigan is one of the earlier schools to ofer me, so I have a really good relationship with them. I spend a lot of time talking to them and they really develop guys and put guys in the NFL. They have strong track record. If you go to Michigan and do everything you’re supposed to, do everything right, you have a great chance to end up in the NFL.”

Oregon: "Oregon is always a winning program. I think coach (Dan) Lanning has a great staff in place. I really want to talk to some of the players and get to see their perspective. I also want to meet with the strength coaches and get to know them."
