Texas Longhorns hosting nation's top uncommitted offensive recruit

Texas is hosting the nation's No. 2 wide receiver this weekend

The Texas Longhorns have a top-20 recruiting class nationally, but could be close to making a major push up the rankings.

Already the emerging favorite for Mater Dei (California) five-star offensive lineman Brandon Baker, the nation's No. 1 offensive tackle, Texas is set to host a major visitor this weekend.

On Friday, St. Louis University (Missouri) five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo confirmed that he will be in Austin this weekend for the game against Wyoming:

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound playmaker is rated the nation's No. 7 overall prospect, No. 2 wide receiver and is the second highest-rated uncommitted recruit in America, behind only Mater Dei (California) defensive lineman Aydin Breland

And for good reason.

As a junior, Wingo accumulated 41 receptions for 785 yards and 13 total touchdowns with an additional 44 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions on defense. He also returned two of six punt returns for a touchdown.

While Missouri was viewed as a favorite in the late spring and early summer, Texas has emerged as the team to beat.

In fact, the Longhorns are quickly establishing themselves as overwhelming favorites.

This weekend could add to that growing sentiment.

247Sports gives Texas a 75 percent chance of landing Wingo, while On3 puts its chances at 41.6 percent (and growing), while Missouri is down to 34.1 percent.

Frankly, the first number is a lot closer to reality at the moment.

Still, that's even too close for comfort for many Longhorn fans.

But this weekend could widen that gap.
