Prediction: USC Trojans poised to land nation's top uncommitted defensive lineman

USC appears poised to land the nation's top uncommitted defensive lineman

There aren't many uncommitted bluechip prospects left in the class of 2024 ahead of Wednesday's early signing period.

But Bay City (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Carlon Jones is an exception.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound athlete is rated the nation's No. 194 overall prospect and No. 17 defensive lineman, making him the highest-rated uncommitted player in the country at his position.

Not for much longer, however.

Jones is set for a Monday evening commitment, and there appears to be one standout among his four finalists - Alabama, Ohio State, TCU and USC.

Prediction: Carlon Jones to USC Trojans

USC got the final visit for Jones, and that may have made all the difference.

He called the trip an "eye-opener" and had high praise for his final recruiting trek.

"USC has a lot of networking capabilities and (Los Angeles) weather is great," he said.

"It was very good. The staff is very organized and they let me know how much they need me and how I could help the team."

The former Nebraska pledge has also been quite high on Ohio State this fall, but his final trip may prove to be the difference.

It looks like USC is set to add a bluechip talent up front very soon.
