Here are the candidates for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for Jan. 30-Feb. 4 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Michael Dennison, Beaufort, Boys Basketball

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound sophomore hit the game-winning shot as the Eagles beat North Charleston 62-59 in overtime to clinch the region championship. Dennison finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds. It was his ninth double-double of the season. Dennison is averaging 15.1 points and 13.0 rebounds.

Bryson Taylor, Dutch Fork, Boys Basketball

Taylor scored 21 points to go along with 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in the Silver Foxes’ 67-39 rout of White Knoll. The 5-foot-9 sophomore is averaging 12.2 points and 3.1 assists.

Jalen Jefferson, North, Boys Basketball

Jefferson scored 21 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had 5 steals and dealt 3 assists as the Eagles overcame Calhoun County 80-74.

Jazzy Frierson, Hartsville, Girls Basketball

The junior point guard scored 30 points and had 6 rebounds in the Red Foxes’ 46-23 victory over North Myrtle Beach. Frierson was especially effective at the free throw line, going 14-of-16. She leads Hartsville with 19.8 points per game.

Trokel Prew, South Florence, Boys Wrestling

Prep won the 182-pound championship for the second year in a row as the Bruins, a second-year program, took the region title. Prew is 34-4 with 18 pins.

Joyce Edwards, Camden, Girls Basketball

The highly recruited junior keeps putting up superstar numbers. Edwards, a 6-foot-3 forward, scored 40 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 64-40 win over Charlotte Catholic. She had 31 points, 12 rebound, 5 assists and 7 steals in a 93-16 rout of Lake City. Edwards is averaging

28.3 points, 13.6 rebounds and 3.7 steals.

JaNyia Cunningham, Northwestern, Girls Basketball

Cunningham, a 6-foot-1 post player, scored 22 points and got 10 rebounds in a 63-23 thumping of Indian Land. And, get this, she’s an eighth-grader.

Cam Scott, Lexington, Boys Basketball

The 6-foot-5 guard scored 23 points in Lexington’s 61-43 win over Ridge View. Scott has 17 college offers. Among them are South Carolina, Kansas, Tennessee and Auburn.

Hudson Spivey, Pee Dee Academy, Boys Basketball

A 6-foot-4 post player, Spivey had another solid all-around game with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks in a 45-23 win over Williamsburg Academy.

Montraivis White, Gray Collegiate, Boys Basketball

White, a 5-foot-11 guard, had 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals as the War Eagles swamped Columbia 68-33. He’s averaging 14.9 points, 3.8 assists and 2.7 steals.
