Here are the candidates for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for Feb. 20-25 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Voting will conclude on Sunday at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced Monday, March 6. Clark Moraux, St. John’s Christian, Boys Basketball

You can’t get more clutch than this. Moraux drained a 3-pointer from the wing as time expired to lift the Cavaliers to a 55-52 win over Cathedral Academy in the SCISA 2-A state championship game. Moraux was left open when Cathedral double-teamed Shy’Juan Grant, who threw him the pass.

Shemar Simes, Darlington, Baseball

Simes fired a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with a double in Darlington’s 6-0 win over Chesterfield.

Celena Grant, North Augusta, Girls Basketball

The all-state freshman scored 24 points as North Augusta rallied for a 58-50 win over Wade Hampton in the 4-A Upper State finals.

John Burke, Midland Valley, Wrestling

A senior, Burke made history by becoming the first Midland Valley wrestler to win a state championship. Burke was the 285-pound winner.

Randy Gibson, Scott’s Branch, Boys Basketball

Gibson scored 18 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals in the Eagles’ 64-56 win over Estill in the 1-A Lower State championship game. The 6-foot-1 senior is averaging 20.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 4.5 steals.

Gwendasia Page, Lake View, Girls Basketball

The junior forward passed 1,000 career points against Military Magnet in the 1-A Lower State championship game. Page had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the game. She averaged 12.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 4.8 steals and 4.9 blocked shots for the season.

Colton Travis, Gilbert, Boys Wrestling

Travis won the 195-pound 3-A state championship. A junior, Travis won all three of his matches via pin and finished the season 49-9.

Jalyn Almeida, Cathedral Academy, Girls Basketball

The 5-foot-3 junior guard scored 22 points to help lead Cathedral to a dominating 68-33 win over Beaufort Academy in the SCISASg 2-A state championship game. Almeida hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter. She averaged 16.2 points for the season.

Jonathan Whysong, Wren, Boys Basketball

Whysong scored 19 points, helping Wren to a 63-41 win over Travelers Rest in the 3-A Upper State championship game. The 6-foot-7 senior is averaging 18.6 points and 10.1 rebounds.

Lukas Crosby, High Point Academy, Boys Wrestling

Crosby became the 26th four-time champion in South Carolina High School League history by winning the 145-pound title in the A/AA state tournament. He won championships at 138 (2022), 132 (2021) and 113 (2020).
