Here are the candidates for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for May 15-20 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Voting will conclude on Sunday and the winner will be announced Monday, May 22. Maddie Johnson, Aynor, Softball

Johnson pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Aynor beat Dillon 8-1 to the 3-A Lower State championship. She also homered and drove in three runs.

Damarion Coe, Hartsville, Boys Track and Field

Coe, a sophomore, won the 4-A long state championship with a leap of 23 feet, 1 inch.

Jamari Bennett, West Florence, Boys Track and Field

Bennett blazed to victory with a time of 10.68 seconds in the 100-meter dash to claim the 4-A state championship.

Luke Schuller, Greenville, Boys Track and Field

Schuller, a senior, became a dual state champion in the 4-A meet. He dominated in the javelin with a throw of 184 feet, 6 inches. He won the shot put by a margin of four feet and was third in the discus.

Blaine Redmond, Gray Collegiate, Baseball

Redmond smashed a grand slam to complete a miracle comeback from a 6-0 deficit in the top of the seventh inning. The War Eagles won 7-6 to stave off elimination in the Upper State playoffs. They won the title in the next game.

Amber Hughes, Mid-Carolina, Softball

Hughes overpowered defending state champion Gray Collegiate with 15 strikeouts as the Rebels completed their triumph in the Upper State championship series. The North Greenville signee also homered and picked up the win in relief in the first game. Hughes had 23 strikeouts in 10 innings.

Eliza King, Aiken, Girls Track and Field

King won the 4-A state championship in the javelin for the third year in a row. Her throw of 156 feet, 2 inches is a new state record.

Landon Caulder, Richard Winn Academy, Baseball

Caulder threw a four-hitter and had an RBI single as the Eagles whipped Jefferson Davis Academy 9-0 to sweep the SCISA 1-A state championship series and complete an undefeated season.

Nick Cappello, Hanahan, Baseball

Cappello gave up three hits and struck out eight while pitching into the seventh inning as the Hawks beat Brookland-Cayce 3-1 in Game 2 of the 3-A Lower State championship series. The Florence-Darlington Technical Community College commit was also named the 3-A state player of the year.

Tristan Heckman, Pee Dee Academy, Baseball

Heckman threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts in six innings as the Eagles beat Williamsburg Academy 5-3 to win their second straight SCISA 3-A state championship.
