LAREDO, Texas - Eagle Pass unleashed its powerful offense in a 17-0 rout of Laredo United at the Bill Johnson Student Activity Complex on Wednesday.

With the win Eagle Pass remains perfect in District 30-6A.

“It was a real good fought game concerning our team. They came out to play and executed the way that we wanted them to,” Eagle Pass head coach Oscar Ruiz said. “Being undefeated in district is just hard work and dedication that pays off. They continue working hard and believing in each other and believing in our program.”

Laredo United has a young squad this season and it showed with some miscues on the field. The Lady Longhorns committed nine errors.

“We are a young team, an inexperienced team,” Laredo United head coach Javier Morin said. “If we eliminate the mistakes, the errors, we are going to be alright. I am not making any excuses, but we are a young team, and we played a good ball club.”

Pitcher Larissa Jacquez picked up the victory for Eagle Pass surrendering just two hits in three innings of work in the circle. She struck out five and did not issue a walk. Gabriella Galvan threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen and gave up one hit.

Laredo United pitcher Kk Cox was credited with the loss and only threw three innings. She allowed eight hits and nine runs while striking out two and walking one.

Eagle Pass outhit United 11-3 behind eight players who were stellar at the plate. The Lady Eagles leadoff hitter Karyna Perez (2-for-3) ripped a double to open the game and that set the tone at the plate. Michelle Torrabla (1-for-3) brought Perez home on a fielder’s choice.

A single by Roccio Moreno (1-for-2) continued the offensive onslaught for Eagle Pass. Shania Dunn slammed a double to score Moreno’s courtesy runner Andrea Guerra who made her way to third on a stolen base.

The ensuing batter, Valeria Vielma, (1-for-3) ripped a triple and scored when Sierra Torres (1-for-3) roped a single. When all the dust settled Eagle Pass held a 5-0 lead in the opening inning.

Laredo United visibly struggled at the plate thanks to Jacquez who did not give the Lady Longhorns much to work with.

The Lady Longhorns first hit came in the second inning on a single by Dessy Perez. Laredo United failed to capitalize on Perez’s hit as Eagle Pass buckled down on defense. Laredo United’s two other hits came from Gali Perez and Kailegh Robles.

Eagle Pass tacked on runs in all four innings, with most of the damage coming in the fourth inning when they scored eight times.
