D'Hanis beats Hermleigh 6-2 to capture Texas UIL Class 1A Softball State Championship

AUSTIN, Texas — D’Hanis dominated throughout the 2022 Texas high school softball playoffs on its way back to the Class 1A UIL state tournament for the third time in four years.

Less than an inning into their 1A state title game matchup against Hermleigh, though, the Cowgirls found themselves trailing for the first time this postseason.

D’Hanis showed its resilience by quickly pouncing offensively with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Cowgirls rallied thanks to their timely hitting and a superb outing in the circle by senior pitcher Marissa Santos to down the Cardinals 6-2 in the Class 1A UIL Softball State Championship on Wednesday afternoon at the University of Texas’ Red & Charline McCombs Softball Field.

The victory marks the third 1A softball state championship for D’Hanis and the program’s first state title since 2019.
