Sweeny erupts for monster 6th inning to beat Bullard in Texas UIL 4A Softball State Semifinals
AUSTIN, Texas — When Larissa Reynolds was first called upon in her team’s Class 4A state semifinal game against Bullard, she faced an opportunity to make or break Sweeny’s softball season.
The sophomore first baseman entered as a pinch hitter for the Bulldogs in a bases-loaded scenario with no outs in the top of the sixth in a tied game.
Reynolds delivered the spark off the bench her squad needed.
She stung a hard-hit ground ball into right field through a gap in the defense between first and second. Reynolds slid into second base on a wild throw into the infield as three Bulldogs raced home to score.
Reynolds’ clutch sixth-inning hit helped Sweeny erupt for a late six-run rally to bury Bullard 8-1 on Thursday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The Bulldogs advance to the 4A UIL Softball State Championship game with the victory, which marks their first state title game appearance since 1996.
