Vote: Who should be SBLive’s 2022 Texas high school softball player of the year?

With the infield dirt settled and the 2022 Texas high school softball season officially in the books, it’s time to hand out some hardware.

SBLive will recognize the top pitchers, slappers, power hitters and defensive stars in high school softball around the state with our 2022 All-Region - Central, East, North, South and West - Texas Softball teams and awards, followed by our All-State Softball teams and awards later this week.

Before we unveil our awards, we want to hear from you: who should be SBLive’s 2022 Texas high school softball player of the year?

Kylie Bishop, Senior, 3B/LF, Liberty

Bishop, a Sam Houston State signee, helped Liberty win its second straight state championship and was voted MVP of the 4A state title game after starring in the middle of the Panthers’ powerful lineup offensively and at the corners defensively. The hard-hitting Liberty third baseman entered the state tournament with a .403 batting average this season and he3-for-4 performance — which included two doubles, two RBI and a run scored — helped lift Liberty to a 5-0 win over Sweeny in the 4A state championship game.

Ava Brown, Junior, P/1B, Montgomery Lake Creek

Brown, who’s verbally committed to the Florida Gators, was one of the most dominant two-way players in high school softball in 2022 and led the Lions to a perfect 40-0 finish, the only unbeaten softball season in UIL history. She racked up a 0.46 ERA, 335 strikeouts, a 30-0 record and a .109 opponents’ batting average in the circle through 183 ⅓ innings pitched, and tallied a .405 batting average with 49 hits, 43 RBI, 24 extra-base hits and 10 home runs as the team’s clean-up hitter.

Mihyia Davis, Senior, CF, Lovelady

Davis, a Louisiana-Lafayette signee, swung a big stick to help guide Lovelady to the 2A state title game and end the season as one of the most dangerous hitters in Texas. On top of developing a reputation as a speedster on the basepaths and in center field, she tallied a whopping .659 batting average during her senior season after transferring from Smithville and scored the Lions’ only run of the 2A state tournament on a suicide squeeze in Lovelday’s 1-0 win against defending state champion Stamford.

Leighann Goode, Senior, SS/INF, San Antonio O’Connor

Goode, a Texas Longhorns signee, starred as a slick defender and clutch hitter throughout the Panthers’ run to the 6A state championship, the first softball state title in O’Connor’s school history. She finished the season with 29 RBI and led her team in batting average (.495), fielding percentage (.988), hits (46), runs scored (48), stolen bases (24), OPS (1.606) and extra-base hits (29).

Jensin Hall, Junior, P/, Frisco Heritage

Hall, A Dartmouth verbal commit, racked up a .416 batting average, 29 runs scored, 15 RBI and 10 extra-base hits, but was also one of the Lone Star State’s most untouchable pitchers during her junior year as the Coyotes’ ace. She threw a state-leading seven no-hitters for Frisco Heritage during the 2022 campaign and ended the season with a 27-2 record, a 0.75 ERA, 336 strikeouts, a .113 opponent’s batting average and 17 shutouts in 158 innings pitched.

Sammie Hood, Senior, SS/P, Allen

Hood, a Wichita State signee, etched her name into the record books by breaking the DFW area’s single-season home run record during a monster season for the Eagles. She smacked 20 home runs in 38 games for Allen to go along with a .463 batting average, 64 RBI, 56 runs scored, 33 steals and a 1.761 OPS.

Kenzie Jones, Junior, P/1B, Crawford

Jones, who’s verbally committed to Stephen F. Austin, dazzled in the circle for the Pirates this year and also chipped in with her big bat to help the Pirates claim back-to-back 2A state titles. She put together a 29-2 record and a 1.24 ERA in the circle with 215 strikeouts through 153 innings pitched, and also collected a team-high 51 RBI, 11 home runs and a .549 batting average offensively.

Maddie McKee, Junior, SS/LF, Montgomery Lake Creek

McKee, an LSU verbal commit, served as the Lions’ leadoff hitter and helped lead Lake Creek to its first softball state title by surging to the 5A state title game. She led the Lone Star State in stolen bases (77) and also accumulated a .511 batting average, 72 hits, 70 runs scored, 47 RBI, 28 extra-base hits, a 1.405 OPS and seven home runs.

Kennedy Miller, Junior, C/3B, Georgetown

Miller, who’s verbally committed to Arkansas, helped fuel the Eagles’ historic run to the 5A state championship game with her power at the plate and defensive prowess behind it. She entered the Class 5A state tournament hitting .403 for the season with a team-high 11 home runs and 37 RBI.

Brooke Otto, Senior, SS/P, Smithville

Otto, a McNeese State signee, dominated the Central Texas area as a prolific hitter and lights-out pitcher in 2022. She struck out 122 batters and sported a 1.99 ERA, .168 opponents’ batting average and 13-5 record in the circle through 91 ⅓ innings pitched, and also boasted a perfect 1.000 fielding-percentage mark, a team-leading .711 batting average, 59 runs scored, 54 hits, 39 RBI, 20 triples and 65 stolen bases.

Sydney Saenz, Senior, CF/C/SS, El Paso Americas

Saenz, an Oregon State signee, helped the Trailblazers become the first El Paso team to ever reach the UIL Softball State Championships after advancing to the 6A state semifinals. She hit .362 and owned a .946 fielding percentage through 41 games at various positions for Americas with 47 runs scored, 45 RBI, 42 hits, 17 home runs and eight steals.

Tia Warsop, Junior, CF/OF, Mansfield Lake Ridge

Warsop, who’s verbally committed to Oklahoma State, was one of the most dynamic outfielders throughout the DFW this year leading Lake Ridge to its first 6A state tournament appearance. She finished the Eagles’ historic season with a .985 fielding percentage, 72 hits, a .585 batting average, 68 runs scored, 59 stolen bases, 23 RBI, 11 extra-base hits and a .444 average with runners in scoring position.
