From Duncanville's Pierre Goree to Manor's Che Nwabuko, here are SBLive's finalists for the 2021-22 Texas Large School Male Athlete of the Year.

From record-setting performances on the court to dominance on the diamond and football field, the past year in the Texas high school sports scene was defined by incredible individual achievements, as well as several of the country’s top teams.

Now it’s time to review the best athletes and teams across the state and reflect upon the 2021-22 Texas high school sports year.

SBLive Texas will recognize the top performers from the 2021-22 school year with five end-of-year awards:

Finalists for the 2021-22 SBLive Texas Large School Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards have been selected from Class 5A and 6A UIL schools.

Small School Male and Female Athlete of the Year award finalists have been selected from a pool of TAPPS, SPC and Class 1A-4A UIL schools.

  • First Texas high school football QB in Class 6A to finish career unbeaten as starter since Kyler Murray

Chris Marshall, Senior, Fort Bend Marshall

  • Football = 15 receptions, 466 receiving yards, 11 TD catches in 7 GP
  • Basketball = 21.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 1.8 assists per game, 54% FG, 45% 3PT in 17 GP
  • Led FB Marshall to bi-district round berth in Class 5A Division II football playoffs (10-1 overall record)
  • Led FB Marshall to area round berth in Class 5A basketball playoffs (28-3 overall record)

Kade Moore, Senior, Allen

  • Missouri wrestling signee
  • Top-ranked pound-for-pound Texas high school wrestler (TexasWrestling)
  • Wrestling = 39-1 record during senior year, won 138-pound individual state title after 0:38 pin at UIL Class 6A State Wrestling Championships
  • Led Allen to team state title with a 95-point margin of victory at the UIL Class 6A State Wrestling Championships

Che Nwabuko, Senior, Manor

  • Led Rockwall Heath to state semifinals berth in Class 6A baseball playoffs (32-7 overall record)
