Congratulations to Converse Judson football sophomore quarterback Elijah Favela for being voted SBLive’s Texas High School Athlete of the Week for Sept. 19-25!

Favela had a monster performance through the air during Week 5 action and powered the Rockets’ offense in a back-and-forth shootout against Midland Legacy.

He threw for 443 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions on 33-of-39 passing and added 49 rushing yards to help lead Judson to a 60-50 road win over the Rebels in Midland.

Favela ran away with our latest Texas Athlete of the Week vote to capture this week's honor, receiving 94.35% of the vote. Frisco Panther Creek quarterback Michael Adams finished second with 1.99% of the vote.

Brown and the Rockets enjoyed a bye during Week 6 of the 2022 Texas high school football season, but Converse Judson (2-3) will return to action against San Antonio East Central (2-3) in their District 27-6A opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at D.W. Rutledge Stadium in Converse.

Lake Bennett, Rockwall QB

Bennett completed 10 of 17 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the Yellowjackets’ 56-21 win over rival Rockwall Heath in the I-30 Classic. He also scrambled 15 times for 91 rushing yards and four touchdown runs.

Evan Bullock, Anna QB

Bullock, a Louisiana Tech commit, was 14-of-20 passing for 267 yards and four TDs in the Coyotes’ 47-12 win against Pittsburg.

Bryce Morton, Richland QB

Morton threw for six touchdown passes and 298 yards on 13-of-16 passing to lead Richland past Dallas Adams in a 64-9 win Friday night.

Trever Ham, Melissa QB

Ham completed 16 of 22 passes for 433 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a 56-21 win over Terrell on Friday.

Austin Novosad, Dripping Springs QB

Novosad, a Baylor commit, threw for 215 yards and four TDs on 21-of-24 passing in the Tigers’ 55-7 win against previously undefeated Austin Bowie.

Mabrey Mettauer, The Woodlands QB

Mettauer completed 14 of 17 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns and added 53 rushing yards in a 63-7 win over Conroe.

Elijah Favela, Converse Judson QB

Favela was excellent through the air Friday night, completing 33 of 39 passes for 443 yards and five TDs while adding 49 rushing yards to lead the Rockets to a 60-50 shootout win over Midland Legacy.

Blake Baker, Cypress Ranch QB

In Cy Ranch’s 49-17 win over Cy Woods on Friday night, Baker threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns on 17-of-21 passing. He also scrambled seven times for 19 yards and a touchdown run.

Evan Minjarez, El Paso Eastwood QB

Minjarez shined in the Troopers’ 56-34 win over El Paso El Dorado, throwing for 357 yards and five touchdowns on 19-of-25 passing. He also ran 17 times for 159 yards and two rushing TDs.

Junior Thornton, Waco Midway QB

Thornton accounted for passing, rushing and receiving touchdowns and more than 400 total yards of offense to lead Midway to its first win of the season, a 48-37 victory over Hutto in their district opener. He threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns on 7-of-11 passing, ran 18 times for 210 yards and three rushing TDs, and caught a 43-yard receiving touchdown for the Panthers.

Tyler Hill, San Angelo Central QB

Hill was outstanding in the Bobcats’ 63-61 shootout win over Wylie, throwing for 246 yards and three touchdowns on 16-of-24 passing and running for 271 yards and four rushing TDs on 21 carries. He also completed a dramatic Hail Mary pass as time expired to lift San Angelo Central to a last-second victory.

P.J. Hatter, Spring Westfield QB

Hatter had a tremendous performance against rival Spring on Friday night, completing 15 of 20 passes for 443 yards and seven TD throws to lead Westfield to a 61-22 win. He also ran four times for 55 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Sergio Kennedy, Mansfield QB

Kennedy accounted for 320 yards of total offense and four touchdowns to lead Mansfield to a 49-35 win over rival Mansfield Lake Ridge. He picked up 205 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground.

Sir’Maje Wallace, Mesquite QB

Wallace threw for 389 yards and five touchdowns in Mesquite’s 37-14 win over Tyler Legacy.

Michael Adams, Frisco Panther Creek QB

Adams was 25 of 29 for 331 yards and four touchdowns through the air to lead Panther Creek, a first-year program, to a 50-9 victory over North Dallas for the team’s first win of the season.

Austin Norwood, Tioga QB

Norwood was 9-of-17 passing for 121 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for a score as Tioga ended non-district play with a 43-6 victory over Detroit.

Andon Mata, New London West Rusk QB

Mata completed 13 of 19 passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns and carried 12 times for 187 yards and three scores in a 56-35 win over Arp.

Boston Seahorn, Big Sandy Harmony QB

Seahorn completed 12 of 17 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and carried 17 times for 193 yards and four scores in the Eagles' 60-34 win over Hughes Springs.

Brayden Loyd, Seymour QB

Loyd was 11 of 14 passing for 138 yards and five TDs in a 71-0 win against Munday.

Connor Cuff, Carthage QB

Cuff completed 13 of 22 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns in a 56-7 win over Bullard.

Cash Cross, Center QB

Cross passed for 200 yards and three touchdowns and carried 11 times for 172 yards and two scores in the Roughriders' 52-0 win over Canton.

Kyler Finney, Winnsboro QB

Finney completed 16 of 28 passes for 336 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 73 yards and a TD in a 73-13 win over Rains.

Lawson Swank, Elysian Fields QB

Swank completed 9 of 11 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-10 win over Queen City.

Luke Ullrich, Colleyville Heritage QB

Ullrich passed for 188 yards and three TDs on 14-of-19 passing in a 57-0 win against Fort Worth Trimble Tech.

Cutter Stewart, Alice QB

Stewart threw for 475 yards and seven touchdowns on 25-of-44 passing Friday night in Alice’s 73-13 win over La Feria.

Cody Stoever, Wimberley QB

Stoever threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns on 18-of-25 passing and ran for 171 yards and three rushing TDs on 17 carries to lead the Texans to a 38-28 win against Lampasas.

D’vonne Hmielewski, Sealy QB

Hmielewski completed 14 of 18 passes for 234 yards and four TD throws in a 48-18 victory against West Columbia. He also ran for 67 yards and a rushing touchdown on 10 carries.

Ty Thompson, Graham QB

Thompson racked up 203 yards and six touchdowns through the air on 16-of-26 passing and added a 2-yard touchdown run to lead Graham to a 59-14 win against Mineral Wells.

Drew Forkner, Plano QB

Forkner accounted for 312 total yards and four touchdowns in Plano’s 33-22 win over Plano East on Friday.

Blake Flowers, Seninole QB

Flowers was 26-of-31 passing for 415 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Indians to a 69-20 victory against Pecos on Friday.

Dawson Jaco, Bushland QB

Jaco threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns on 17-of-29 passing to power Bushland to a 38-20 road victory over Dumas on Friday night.

Jacob Saucedo, San Antonio Harlandale QB

Saucedo completed 17 of 22 passes for 307 yards and five TD throws while also rushing for a touchdown to help Harlandale secure a 55-43 win against San Antonio Breckenridge.

Caleb Cook, New Home QB

Cook was an efficient passer Friday night, when he threw for 546 yards and eight touchdowns 22-of-33 passing in the Leopards’ 59-32 road win against Roscoe.

Terry Bussey, Timpson QB

Bussey threw for 121 yards and a touchdown on 5-of-8 passing and also ran for 169 yards and four rushing TDs on six carries in Timpson’s 67-6 win over Grapeland.


RUSHING STARS

Jayden Walker, McKinney North RB

Walker carried the ball 31 times Thursday night for 256 yards and three rushing TDs in a 34-13 win over Tyler.

AJ Newberry, South Grand Prairie RB

Newberry rushed for 279 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries in SGP’s 34-21 loss to Arlington Martin on Friday.

Jaydon Bailey, Cibolo Steele RB

Bailey rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries to help Steele stay undefeated in a 48-7 win against Fort Bend Christian.

Ben Carter, Liberty Hill RB

Carter starred in the Panthers’ 63-6 blowout victory against Kerrville Tivy, rushing 10 times for 208 yards and four touchdown runs Friday night.

Lorenn ‘Bubba’ Johnson, San Antonio Johnson RB

Johnson rushed for 217 yards and three TDs on 14 carries, as the Jaguars defeated San Antonio Roosevelt in a 63-35 victory.

Ashton Ojiaku, Richmond Foster RB

Ojiaku powered the Falcons’ rushing attack in a 41-0 road win against Friendswood, running for 269 yards and all three of Foster’s rushing touchdowns on 18 carries Friday night.

Antwone Rattler, Howe RB

Rattler had 18 carries for 190 yards and three touchdowns to go with an 18-yard TD catch as Howe posted a 68-14 victory against S&S Consolidated

Spencer Hinds, Bells RB

Hinds had 10 carries for 190 yards and three touchdowns as Bells closed out non-district play with a 42-13 victory against Callisburg.

Dakota Howard, Van Alstyne RB

Howard had 12 carries for 114 yards and two touchdowns as Van Alstyne downed Krum, 32-27.

Aaron Darden, Trophy Club Byron Nelson RB

In Byron Nelson’s 69-2 win over Keller Timber Creek, Darden tallied a career-high 228 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries.

Caleb Henderson, Petrolia RB

Henderson rushed for five touchdowns, and Petrolia nabbed its first win of the season Friday in a 34-7 victory over Electra. Henderson had touchdown runs of 3, 5, 3, 36 and 42 yards, finishing with 159 rushing yards on 21 carries.

Taylor Tatum, Longview RB

Tatum rushed 26 times for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the Lobos' 21-13 win over Lancaster.

Isaiah Ross, Kilgore RB

Ross ran 13 times for 211 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs' 32-0 win over Palestine.

J'Koby Williams, Beckville RB

Williams rushed for 10 yards and a touchdown, caught two passes for 60 yards and two scores, passed for 28 yards and a TD and returned an interception 44 yards for a score in the Bearcats' 56-0 win over Big Sandy.

Colby Plaster, Ore City RB/LB

In the Rebels' 32-7 win over Union Grove. Plaster carried eight times for 106 yards and two touchdowns and added 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup on defense.

J.Q. Davis, Marshall RB

Davis tallied 31 carries for 183 yards and four touchdowns in the Mavericks' 36-7 win over Pine Tree.

Rashawn Mumphrey, Alto RB

Mumphrey carried the ball 25 times for 344 yards and three touchdowns in Alto's 32-20 win over Groveton.

Viron Ellison, Lewisville RB

Ellison powered the Farmers’ rushing attack Friday with 24 carries for 230 yards and two rushing TDs in a 28-21 win over Flower Mound.

Coco Brown, Frisco Emerson RB

Brown tallied 27 carries for 186 yards, including touchdown runs of 76 and 65 yards, to help first-year program Frisco Emerson improved to 5-0 with a 47-13 win against Denton.

Kevontae White, Mesquite Horn RB

White rushed for 112 yards and two TDs on 19 carries in his team’s 35-25 win against North Forney.

Spencer Danner, Texarkana Pleasant Grove RB

Danner carried 24 times for 213 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-14 win over Paris.

Brody Eaves, Carlisle RB/DB

Eaves rushed for 156 yards and a TD, caught a TD pass, intercepted a pass and blocked two kicks in a 48-32 win over Lone Oak.

Caleb Bell, Texas City RB

Bell carried the ball 12 times for 184 yards and four rushing touchdowns in a 41-7 road win over Galena Park.

Tycen Williams, Cuero RB

Williams ran 14 times for 202 yards and three rushing TDs in the Gobblers’ 82-28 win against Beeville Jones.

Rueben Owens, El Campo RB

Owens, a Louisville commit, rushed for 353 yards and five touchdowns on 37 carries in the Ricebirds’ 45-35 road victory over Navasota.

Noah Carter, White Oak RB

Carter tallied 15 carries for 213 yards and five touchdowns and passed for 40 yards in the Roughnecks' win over Elkhart.

Makenzie McGill, Mt. Vernon QB

McGill ran the ball 22 times for 244 yards and three rushing touchdowns in the Tigers’ 42-25 win against Mineola.

Carson Kuykendall, Llano RB

In Friday’s game versus San Antonio Cole, Kuykendall put his team on his back by running for 162 yards and a season-high five rushing touchdowns on 13 carries in a 59-0 victory for Llano.

Elijah Huff, Corpus Christi West Oso RB

Huff ran for 311 yards and four rushing TDs on 41 carries to help push the Bears to a 40-38 shootout win over Bishop.


RECEIVING STARS

Julius Spencer, Garland Lakeview Centennial WR

Spencer tallied nine catches for 138 receiving yards and a touchdown in Lakeview Centennial’s 62-0 blowout win over South Garland on Thursday.

Tyler Akers, Azle WR

Akers caught five passes for 191 yards and two TDs in a 54-0 win over Fort Worth Brewer on Friday night.

Hunter Summers, Prosper WR

Summers hauled in three receptions for 104 yards and caught three of Prosper’s four touchdown passes in a 49-0 victory over rival Prosper Rock Hill.

Jaydon Leza, Lake Belton WR

Leza caught seven passes for 149 yards and two receiving touchdowns in Lake Belton’s 42-0 victory against Waco on Friday night.

Owen Carter, Cy-Fair WR

Carter caught 10 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 43-31 win over Houston Stratford.

Xavier Rodriguez, Donna WR

Rodriguez, a freshman, exploded for 172 receiving yards and three touchdown grabs on seven catches in Donna’s dominant 71-0 win over Brownsville Lopez to kick off district play.

Xavier Alexander, North Crowley WR

Alexander had three catches for 111 yards and two TDs as North Crowley defeated Euless Trinity 42-20.

Jace Sanders, Whitesboro WR

Sanders caught four passes for 176 yards and two TDs in a 58-24 win against Pilot Point.

Bryant Wesco, Midlothian WR

Wesco hauled in five receptions for 155 yards and four touchdown catches in a 57-0 road win against Cleburne on Friday night to help the Panthers stay undefeated.

Christian Saldana, Laredo United WR

Wesco caught nine passes for 345 yards and three receiving TDs in a 56-49 shootout loss to Harlingen on Friday night in Roma.


DEFENSIVE/SPECIAL TEAMS STARS

Colton Vasek, Austin Westlake DE

Vasek, an Oklahoma commit, was the defensive MVP of the Chaparrals’ 35-20 comeback win over Lake Travis. He finished with 10 tackles (nine solo), two sacks, a TFL, a pass deflection and a QB pressure for Westlake.

Steel Littlejohn, Frisco Wakeland S

Littlejohn tallied four tackles, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a 50-yard interception return in a 38-10 win over Frisco Lone Star.

Ryan Ventura, Keller S

Ventura finished a busy night with 13 tackles, an INT returned for a 78-yard TD, a blocked FG returned for a 76-yard TD, a TFL and a pass deflection in a 49-28 win over Keller Central.

Cam Hawkins, Fort Worth Western Hills DB

Hawkins returned two interceptions for touchdowns, covering 60 and 88 yards, in a 50-30 win against Fort Worth Carter-Riverside.

Ean Crite, Texarkana Texas High DL

Crite recorded 10 tackles and two sacks in the Tigers’ 56-31 win against Hallsville.
