Burleson Centennial stuns Denton Ryan 23-16

The Spartans improve to 4-0 in District 3-5A

Burleson Centennial is 6-0 for the first time in school history.

The Spartans used a stifling defense and a physical run game to upset Denton Ryan 23-16 on Friday night in a key District 3-5A Texas high school football game.

Elijah Zeh rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Philip Hamilton ran for 42 yards and a scored to lead a Burleson Centennial rushing attack that finished with 194 yards.

The Spartans led 14-13 at halftime thanks to a 17-yard scoop and score from Micah Brown. It was one of two fumble recoveries for Burleson Centennial.

Hamilton scored what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard run late in the third quarter to give the Spartans a 20-16 lead. 

Truitt Bosher tacked on a 29-yard field goal with 5:17 left in the game to account for the final score. 

Jordyn Bailey rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown for Denton Ryan, and Braeden Mussett caught four passes for 92 yards.

It was the first district loss for Denton Ryan (4-2, 4-1), while Burleson Centennial improved to 4-0 in district play.
