Congratulations to Spring football junior outside linebacker Dayshawn McClure for being voted SBLive’s Texas High School Athlete of the Week for Oct. 3-9!
McClure shined defensively during Spring’s shutout win against the Aldine Mustangs in District 14-6A action during Week 7.
He tallied three tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and two defensive touchdowns to lead the Lions to a dominant 62-0 victory over Aldine.
McClure ran away with our latest Texas Athlete of the Week vote to capture this week's honor, receiving 35.80% of the vote. Arlington QB Sam Semi Jr. finished second with 18.07% of the vote.
McClure and the Lions kept rolling during Week 8 of the 2022 Texas high school football season, winning via their second straight shutout defensively in a 34-0 road victory over Aldine MacArthur.
Spring (4-3, 3-1) returns to action for a battle between second-place teams in District 14-6A when the Lions square off against the Dekaney Wildcats (4-3, 3-1) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Planet Ford Stadium in Spring.

Gavin Rutherford, Katy Cinco Ranch QB
Rutherford put the Cougars’ offense on his back in a 53-41 shootout win over Katy Jordan in district play. He was 16-of-22 passing for 448 yards and four TDs and also ran 10 times for 57 yards and a rushing score.
Mabrey Mettauer, The Woodlands QB
Mettaur threw for five touchdown passes and 211 yards on 8-of-9 passing and ran twice for 20 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown the Highlanders to a 70-0 blowout victory over Cleveland in district play.
Jaime Lopez, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo QB
Lopez completed 34 of 53 passes for 472 yards and five touchdowns and also ran for 22 yards to lead the Bears to a lopsided 55-13 win against Edinburg Economedes on Thursday.

Bailey went off during the Eagles’ 56-7 blowout win against Mansfield Legacy in district play Friday, throwing for 290 yards and five TDs on 23-of-30 passing.
Sawyer Anderson, Dallas Parish Episcopal QB
Anderson completed 18 of 26 passes for 307 yards and five touchdowns through the air in the Panthers’ lopsided 44-0 win over Dallas Bishop Lynch in their TAPPS district opener Friday.
Jake Wilson, Trophy Club Byron Nelson QB
Wilson was excellent through the air Friday night, completing 16 of 23 passes for 285 yards and six passing TDs to lead the Bobcats to a 65-7 district win against Haltom that helped Byron Nelson remain undefeated. He also scrambled four times for 82 rushing yards and a touchdown run.
Hudson Hutcheson, Wolfforth Frenship QB
In Wolfforth Frenship’s 49-34 district win over Midland Legacy on Friday night, Hutcheson threw for 439 yards and six TDs through the air on 24-of-28 passing and ran 23 times for 41 yards and a rushing touchdown.
DJ Lagway, Willis QB
Lagway shined in the Wildkats’ 49-24 win against The Woodlands College Park, throwing for 387 yards and five touchdowns on 27-of-30 passing. He also ran seven times for 51 rushing yards for Willis.
Kody Fuentes, Mt. Belvieu Barbers Hill QB
Fuentes powered the Eagles’ high-flying offense Friday night and led the eagles to a 43-14 road win against Baytown Lee. He completed 19 of 33 pass attempts for 244 yards and five TDs through the air
Elijah Durrette, Corpus Christi Veterans QB
Durrette was outstanding through the air in the Eagles’ 45-31 victory over Victoria West, throwing for 325 yards and four TDs on 15-of-27 passing. He also ran seven times for 57 yards and a rushing touchdown, his fifth touchdown of the game, for Corpus Christi Vets.
Noah Booras, Georgetown QB
Booras had a tremendous performance through the air against district rival Leander on Friday, completing 12 of 16 passes for 247 yards and five TD throws to lead the Eagles to a 70-16 blowout win.
Deuce Adams, New Braunfels Canyon QB
Adams completed 11 of 21 pass attempts for 221 yards and three TDs to lead the Cougars to a narrow 44-41 road win against Buda Hays on Friday night. He also tallied 102 rushing yards and a touchdown run on 12 carries.
Carson Horton, Dayton QB
Horton threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns on 18-of-23 passing to lead Dayton to a 49-0 victory over Galena Park in district play.
Jaxon Baize, Boerne QB
Baize was superb Friday night when he completed 17 of 22 passes for 203 yards and five touchdowns through the air to lead the Greyhounds to a 62-7 win at Uvalde.
Ashton Garza, Vanderbilt Industrial QB
Garza was a perfect 9-of-9 passing for 201 yards and three TDs through the air to lead the Cobras to a 67-0 blowout victory against Aransas Pass. He also ran for 136 yards and two rushing touchdowns on five carries for Vanderbilt Industrial.
Wyatt Smith, Pilot Point QB
Smith completed 18 of 34 passes for 368 yards and six touchdowns through the air, and scrambled 15 times for 25 rushing yards, as the Bearcats eked out a 58-55 shootout road win over Ponder.
Camren Cavalier, Canadian QB
Cavalier completed 10 of 17 passes for 228 yards and two TDs through the air and scrambled 24 times for 201 rushing yards and five touchdown runs to lead the Wildcats to a 62-28 road victory against Childress.
JJ Acosta, Taft QB
Acosta completed 27 of 32 passes for 318 yards and four TDs and scrambled 12 times for 132 yards and a rushing touchdown in the Greyhounds' 43-0 win over Santa Rosa.

In the Raiders' 52-10 win over Splendora, Powell completed 14 of 17 passes for 316 yards and five touchdowns through the air.

Semi accounted for 483 total yards and three touchdowns in the Colts’ 57-48 win against crosstown district rival Arlington Bowie.
Jack Fishpaw, Coppell QB
Fishpaw threw for 387 yards and five TDs on touchdown passes of 71, 62, 29, 23 and 4 yards to lead Coppell to a 38-14 district win over Flower Mound Marcus on Friday.

Miller threw for 544 yards and five TDs on 20-of-28 passing and accounted for six total touchdowns in a 49-0 win over Dallas Skyline.
Kaden Brown, Midlothian Heritage QB
Brown’s breakout game helped Heritage down Mansfield Summit in a 44-20 victory, during which he passed for 345 yards and five touchdowns.
Kaid Barrett, Fort Worth Wyatt QB
Barrett threw for 166 yards and five TDs and added a sixth rushing touchdown, as Wyatt beat Fort Worth North Side in a 47-20 district victory.
Kanon Gibson, Wink QB/LB
Gibson threw for 265 yards and five touchdowns offensively and recorded seven tackles defensively in Wink’s 49-7 win over Eldorado. He also ran for 147 yards and two rushing TDs in the Wildcats’ victory Friday.
Lando Belcher, Jacksboro QB
Belcher threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for two scores, as Jacksboro overwhelmed Eastland 53-6 on Friday night in their District 5-3A Division II opener.
Hunter Long, Cisco QB
Long rushed for 328 yards and four TDs on just 17 touches, averaging 19.3 yards per carry in Cisco’s 34-15 win over Olney.
Logan Cope, Windthorst QB
Cope finished with a 15-of-26 passing mark for 166 yards and three TDs to help Windthorst stay undefeated with a 30-18 victory against Petrolia. He also led his team with 85 rushing yards and a touchdown run, his fourth score of the game Friday night.
Jack Pitts, Wichita Falls Rider QB
In Rider’s 51-21 win against Abilene Cooper, Pitts scored five touchdowns — including four passing TDs during the first half — and completed 17 of 31 pass attempts for 363 yards — outgaining Cooper, which had 288 total yards, by himself.
Austin Haley, Howe QB
Haley was 17-of-22 passing for 205 yards, a touchdown and an interception along with 12 carries for 59 rushing yards and two touchdown runs on 12 carries, as the Bulldogs won their first district game in three years with a 34-3 win against Leonard in District 8-3A DII action.
Halen Flanagan, Pottsboro QB
Flanagan was 18-of-34 passing for 284 yards and three TDs through the air and also ran 16 times for 63 yards and a rushing touchdown, as Pottsboro defeated Bonham 55-14 in district action Friday.
Demetrius Brisbon, Tyler Chapel Hill QB
Brisbon completed 13 of 18 passes for 290 yards and five touchdowns and added 22 rushing yards in a 62-21 win over Jacksonville.
Carter Jones, Lancaster QB
In the Tigers’ 55-9 win against Tyler, Jones connected on 14 of 31 passing attempts for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
Blaine Cornelius, Harleton QB
Cornelius completed 10 of 12 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns and carried nine times for 111 yards and four rushing TDs in a 61-6 win over Union Grove.
Kyler Finney, Winnsboro QB
In a 28-14 win over previously undefeated Mount Vernon on Friday, Finney was 13-of-25 passing for 112 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball 20 times for 167 yards and a rushing touchdown for the Raiders.
Jordan Allen, Longview QB
Allen completed 12 of 17 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 45 yards in the Lobos' 46-7 win over Forney.
Jace Moseley, Hallsville QB
Moseley completed 15 of 19 passes for 223 yards and four TDs and rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown run in the Bobcats' 49-24 win over Nacogdoches.
Cadon Tennison, Gilmer QB
Tennison passed for 110 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 92 yards and a TD in a 35-14 win over Pleasant Grove.
Connor Cuff, Carthage QB
Cuff passed for 205 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 49-0 win over Canton that helped Carthage improve to 7-0 this season.

Robinson completed 15 of 22 passes for 231 yards and three TDs and ran for 69 yards and one rushing touchdown in a 48-34 win over Athens.

Johnson completed 16 of 31 passes for 338 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 58 yards and two scores in the Tigers' 73-6 win over New Diana.
Andon Mata, New London West Rusk QB
Mata rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown, and also completed 9 of 15 passes for 125 yards and two passing TDs in West Rusk's 63-0 win over Winona.
Darryl Shelton, Frisco Emerson QB
Shelton threw for 273 yards and four TDs on 13-of-24 passing and ran 12 times for 80 yards and two rushing touchdowns to help first-year varsity program Frisco Emerson improve to 7-0 with a 40-30 win over Frisco Memorial.
Jaime Buitron, Sonora QB/DB
Buitron threw for 194 yards and a touchdown and ran for 176 yards, 4 rushing TDs offensively in Sonora’s 38-6 road win against Ozona in district play. He also tallied 10 tackles and interception defensively for the Broncos.

Ezell Jolly, Fort Bend Ridge Point RB
Jolly rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries to help lead Ridge Point past Fort Bend Elkins 54-0, as the Panthers won their fifth straight district game. He also caught two passes for 30 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Jeremiah Cherry, San Antonio Wagner RB
Cherry ran for 101 yards and a rushing touchdown on 15 carries in the Thunderbirds’ 61-12 win against San Antonio MacArthur in district play Friday. He also hauled in a team-high three receptions for 73 yards and three touchdown catches for Wagner.
Dennis Moody, Frisco Reedy RB
Moody helped the Lions improve to 7-0 by running for 149 yards and four rushing TDs on 19 carries and led Reedy to a 55-29 victory over Frisco Lebanon Trail on Thursday.
Kedrick Reescano, New Caney RB
Reescano, a Michigan State commit, starred in the Eagles’ 50-28 district victory against Conroe, rushing 24 times for 184 yards and a trio of touchdown runs Friday night. He also caught two receptions for 9 yards and threw for 13 yards on 2-of-2 passing.
AJ Newberry, South Grand Prairie RB
Newberry finished with 186 rushing yards and three touchdown runs on 24 carries and four catches for 33 receiving yards in the Warriors’ 66-17 win against district rival Grand Prairie.
Andrew Anderson, Crandall RB
Anderson was a major factor in the Pirates’ power-rushing attack in a 62-36 win against Greenville, running seven times for 218 yards and three rushing TDs and catching a 29-yard touchdown pass Friday night.
Deonte Dean, Lake Highlands RB
Dean recorded 22 carries for 232 yards and four touchdown runs Friday night, as Lake Highlands secured a 42-7 victory against district rival Irving MacArthur.
Re’Shaun Sanford, Harker Heights RB
Sanford, a Houston commit, stole the spotlight Friday during the Knights’ 42-24 road win over Hutto in district play, logging 24 carries for 272 rushing yards and three touchdown runs for Harker Heights.
Koby Fosher, Tomball RB
Fosher was an instrumental part of the Cougars’ virtually unstoppable rushing attack Friday night, which racked up 422 total yards on the ground in a 62-13 victory over Waller. He ended the game with 18 carries for 200 yards and three rushing TDs as well as a 26-yard reception for Tomball.
Noah Long, Liberty Hill RB
In the Panthers’ 56-49 shootout win against district rival San Antonio Veterans, Long tallied a team-high 26 carries for 270 rushing yards and three of Liberty Hill’s nine total touchdown runs.
Bryce Burgess, Pearland Dawson RB
Burgess rushed 16 times Friday night for 202 yards and four TDs on the ground and added three receptions for 56 yards and two touchdown catches to lead Dawson to a 52-44 shootout victory against Houston Strake Jesuit in district play.

Castillo toted the ball 24 times for 274 rushing yards and a pair of touchdown runs in the Tigers' 61-49 shootout win over Tomball Memorial to help Klein Collins improve to 6-0.

In a 44-31 win over Longview Pine Tree, Ross finished with 13 tackles and two TFLs for Whitehouse.
Dayshawn McClure, Spring OLB
McClure was busy making plays all over the field during the Lions’ 62-0 victory against Aldine on Friday night and finished with three tackles (two solo), an interception, a fumble recovery and two defensive TDs.

Rockwell recorded 14 tackles in a 31-12 win over North Lamar.
Jake Brand, Houston Stratford WR
Brand scored on an 87-yard punt return touchdown in the Spartans’ dominant 52-7 victory against Houston Northbrook. He also caught two passes for 81 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns for Stratford.
