BROCK, Texas — The Peaster Greyhounds got off to a great start to the 2022-23 season with strong showings in tournament and non-district games.

But the Greyhounds have been even better later in the year.

Since the start of 2023, Peaster hasn't lost a game. The surging Greyhounds kept their winning ways going Saturday, with three of Peaster's top players scoring double figures during a dominant performance in a 73-30 road win over the Brock Eagles.

The victory over Parker Country rival Brock extends a now nine-game winning streak for Peaster, as the Greyhounds locked up a playoff berth and the District 8-3A championship too with the win.

“I’m proud of my kids. They came out and just brought it,” Peaster head coach Garrett Hilton said. “ We always talk about what Mike Tyson used to say ‘Everybody’s got a plan until they get hit in the mouth. We came out and we hit them in the mouth.”

Star 5-foot-8 senior and Abilene Christian commit Payton Hull scored 22 points in the winning effort for Peaster, including 14 points during a strong second-half performance.

“That’s everybody’s gameplan: ‘We gotta stop her.’” Hilton said. “And very rightfully so. She is a division one player playing 3A basketball. I’m glad she’s on my team.”

However, it was 5-foot-7 senior Landry Robertson who led the Greyhounds in scoring. She drilled seven 3-pointers throughout the contest and added six more points in the paint, finishing with a game-high 27 points for Peaster.

“I don’t know how many threes she hit,” Hilton joked. “I just joked with them in the locker room ‘hey she just hit another one.’ She was on fire. She had been on a bit of a skid, hadn’t made many shots here lately but she busted out of that.”

The Greyhounds controlled the momentum from start to finish and led 31-3 after one quarter. The game slowed during the second quarter, but Peaster still held the Lady Eagles to just seven points during the entire first half to highlight a dominant defensive effort.

Sophomores Keira Matthews and Halli Hyatt led the scoring for Brock, finishing the night with eight points apiece.

But fueled by the powerful attack of Hull and Robertson, Peaster fired away from the outside early and often to help Peaster run away with a lopsided victory over their District 8-3A rivals.

And with Brooklyn Bosher chipping in with additional 14 points, the Greyhounds were just too much to contain.

“She’s dang good too,” Hilton exclaimed. “She can get to the basket, she can make shots, she orchestrates the offense for us and gets us going. She scored some tough baskets tonight and on defense.”

Even during the second half with the Greyhounds holding a comfortable and commanding lead, shots for the Eagles still struggled to connect.

Robertson really started to let loose and catch fire during the third quarter too, connecting on four more 3-pointers over an 8-minute stretch for the Greyhounds.

With a 58-19 lead late in the second half, Peaster played its bench for the remainder of the game, but not before Hull added another eight points to her tally, bringing the final score to 73-30 in favor of the Greyhounds.

Peaster (25-5, 12-0) will look to move on step closer towards closing out a perfect run through district play when the Greyhounds return to action against the Breckenridge Buckaroos (18-15, 8-4) at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Peaster.

Brock (27-6, 10-2) will look to bounce back and lock up District 8-3A's No. 2 playoff seed when the Eagles host the Millsap Bulldogs (15-14, 6-5) at the same time Tuesday night in Brock.
