Aaliyah Chavez is the fans' choice as SBLive national girls basketball player of the year
Aaliyah Chavez has been the top prospect in the Class of 2025 for a while now, and she's been stuffing the stat sheet in her sophomore season.
Last week she proved to be a fan favorite nationally as well, piling up 137,303 votes to become the fans' choice as national high school girls basketball player of the year if the season ended today.
Chavez earned 54.9% of the vote after going toe-to-toe all week with South Bend Washington (Indiana) senior Rashunda Jones, who finished second with 99,366 votes (39.8%).
A 5-foot-9 point guard at Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, Chavez is averaging 30.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.1 steals per game.
She broke the 41-year-old career scoring record at Monterey last month and is approaching 2,000 career points with more than two years of high school basketball remaining.
