Meet the top point guards in North Texas

Lydia Cooke-Wiggins, 5-6, Sr., Plano John Paul II

She was a first-team all-district and all-state pick and also made the TAPPS 6A all-tournament team for the Cardinals. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 12.5 points per game last year for JPII.

Her passing skills caught the eye of a handful of in-state programs and she’s signed to play for Mark Kellogg at Stephen F. Austin.

Kaelyn Hamilton, 5-9, Jr., North McKinney

The combo guard has put up solid numbers across the board for the Bulldogs. Through 24 games, she has 19.3 points per game, 3.6 assists per game, 6.4 rebounds per game and 2.4 steals per game.

Hamilton holds offers from Louisiana Tech, Arkansas-Little Rock, Wichita State, Colorado State, North Texas and Weber State.

Amarachi Kimpson, 5-8, Sr., Little Elm

Earned all-region and all-state her freshman season and has been a standout ever since. She’s been an offensive player of the year and district MVP last year.

She averaged 22.2 points per game last year and is at 19.5 points per game with 2.1 3-pointers per game this year through Jan. 26. The UNLV signee is a three-time all-state pick on her way to a probable four-time honor.

Joy Madison-Key, 5-8, Sr., South Grand Prairie

The 5-foot-8 guard helped the Warriors reach the state title game and 35 wins last year. She was a first-team all-district pick as a junior and has helped SGP reach the state tournament the past two years.

She averaged 12.5 points, 5.9 assists and 5 steals per game this summer for the North Texas Shockers. The McDonald’s All-American nominee signed with Tulane.

Emma Kay Martin, 5-8, Sr., Argyle Liberty Christian

A TAPPS 6A all-state player last year, Martin eclipsed 1,000 career points earlier this season.

She scored 40 points earlier this season in the Warriors’ victory against state-ranked Seminole in the Whataburger Tournament - a tournament where she averaged 26.5 points per game. Holds offers from Hardin-Simmons and Colorado Christian.

Odessa Ozuna, 5-6, Sr., Fort Worth Nolan Catholic

Through the penultimate week of January, she had 777 points - an average of 25.1 per game for the Vikings. The McDonald’s All-American nominee was an all-district and all-state pick while picking up offensive MVP honors in her district.

Already a 1,000-point career scorer, she could reach 2,000 points later this season.

Taliyah Parker, 6-1, Jr., South Grand Prairie

Parker transfers into Texas this season after playing for Putnam City West in Oklahoma. The 6-foot-1 five-star prospect has been playing on the USA Basketball scene and is being heavily recruited by Power 5 schools with offers from LSU, UCLA, Baylor and North Carolina, to name a few.

Parker is ranked the sixth-best junior in the county by ESPN’s HoopGurlz.

Micah Russell, 5-6, Sr., Sunnyvale

Has helped the Lady Raiders start district play with a 10-0 record, including a game where Russell outscored the entire opposition, 30-27. That was a feat she accomplished twice that week, setting a school record with 45 in an 86-31 win against Farmersville.

She averages 20.6 points per game and hits more than three 3-pointers per game. The McDonald’s All-American nominee surpassed 1,600 points in her career in January.

Madison Spain, 5-7, Sr., North Mesquite

Has picked up scoring for the Stallions this year with multiple 30-plus point games and is averaging 21.8 points through Jan. 25. She has helped North Mesquite to get in a position in the 12-5A District to fight for its first playoff berth since 2009.

Camryn Tade, 5-10, Sr., Southlake Carroll

A three-time all-district pick is on her way to a fourth straight spot. The 5-foot-10 senior has been an MVP, Newcomer of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year for the Dragons. She committed to Army in January.

Tade averages 21.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game for Southlake.

Others considered/special honors

Jordyn DeVaughn, 5-6, Sr., Frisco Lone Star

An all-district pick, the 5-foot-6 senior guard is headed to play at Air Force.

Victoria Flores, 5-7, Sr., Duncanville

An injury has kept her from playing this year, but is a TCU pledge that was an all-state her sophomore season. She played at Dallas L.G. Pinkston that season and moved to Duncanville last year and scored 15.3 points per game.

Vivian Jin, 5-6, Sr., Highland Park

The 5-foot-6 guard was a McDonald’s All-American honoree for the Scots. She is averaging 2.1 3-pointers per game this year and is scoring 12 points per game.

A little more than a year into her high school career, she eclipsed 1,000 points, coming in December. She is averaging 25.1 points with 7.3 rebounds, 4.1 steals and 2.4 assists per game through 19 contests.

Jenerson tallied 52 points in a win against Burleson and made a school-record 13 free throws in November. She was a TAPPS 5A all-state pick last year.
