Congratulations to Lytle senior PG/SG Jordan Balderaz for being voted SBLive’s Texas High School Athlete of the Week for Feb. 6-12!

Congratulations to Lytle boys basketball senior guard Jordan Balderaz for being voted SBLive’s Texas High School Athlete of the Week for Feb. 6-12!

Balderaz stole the spotlight and went off offensively during back-to-back blowout wins for the Pirates over Crystal City and Natalia that helped his team clinch the outright District 28-3A title

He scored a game-high 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting (81.3% FG) in a 93-57 win over Crystal City where he also tallied seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Balderaz then put on one of his top offensive performances of his high school career when he led Lytle to a dominant 102-48 victory against Natalia, marking the fourth time the Pirates have eclipsed 100 points in a district game this season.

He finished with a monster double-double after dropping a season-high 49 points on 20-of-32 shooting (62.5% FG) to go along with 24 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals in Lytle’s 54-point win over the Mustangs.

The Pirates senior guard averaged 40.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks for the week while sinking 68.8% of his shot attempts from the floor during that stretch.

Balderaz ran away with our latest Texas Athlete of the Week vote to capture this week's honor, receiving 73.53% of the vote. Keller senior SF Brooks Bahr finished second with 26.08% of the vote.

Balderaz and the Pirates have stayed hot, beating Cotulla 78-35 in their regular-season finale and rolling to an 87-52 win against South San Antonio West Campus on Monday in the bi-district round of the Class 3A Texas high school boys basketball playoffs.

Lytle (30-6) will return to action looking to extend its 14-game winning streak against the winner of the Columbus-Universal City Randolph game at a to-be-determined time, date and location later this week in the area round of the 3A UIL boys basketball playoffs.

Columbus (22-7) and Universal City Randolph (14-9) will play their bi-district round game in the 3A Texas high school boys basketball playoffs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Columbus.
