Vote now: Who should be SBLive’s 2022-23 Texas Boys Basketball Class 2A Player of the Year?
After four months of regular season play and seven rounds of postseason, it's time to recognize the top stars in the 2022-23 Texas high school basketball season.
SBLive has selected finalists for our Class 1A-6A and Private School Player of the Year awards to be chosen by the fans.
First we took a look at the private school (TAPPS) boys and girls finalists, then Class 6A boys, Class 5A boys, Class 4A boys and, most recently, Class 3A boys.
We narrowed the list down to five finalists. Now we want to hear from you: Who was the most valuable player in 2A during the 2022-23 Texas high school boys basketball season?

2A state player of the year: Meet the finalists
JMaury Davis, Clarendon Sr. PG/SG
A future football player at Texas Tech, Davis put up solid numbers for the Broncos. He scored 20.2 points per game, while adding 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.4 assists per contest as well.
Kanon Gibson, Wink Sr. PG/SG
The future West Texas A&M quarterback scored 23.2 points per game for the Wildcats on the hardwood. The District 6-2A MVP also had 4.1 asists, 7.9 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.
Joel Rodriguez, Sabinal Sr. PG/SF
Helped his team reach a bi-district game. Scored a team-high 25.3 points per game for the Yellowjackets. Shot 57% from the field, while hitting 72% of free throws and 41% of 3-pointers. Had 3.1 assists and 3 steals per game as well.
Tra Thomas, Corrigan-Camden Sr. G
The District 24-2A MVP scored 16.9 points for the 25-win Bulldogs. The 5-foot-10 guard had 6.6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3.5 steals and hit 48% of shots from the field.
Jefferson Weaver, Gruver Sr. PF/C
The District 1-2A MVP helped his squad win the area championship behind a 20-point effort over Olton. Tallied his 1,000th point in January.
J’Koby Williams, Beckville Jr. PG
While his future will be on the football field – he holds offers from Texas, TCU, Michigan, LSU to name a few – he helpd Bearcats to a bi-district title by scoring 28 points. Led team in scoring (18.6), steals (3.5) and assists (3.5) and was third in rebounds (4.6) this season.
