China Spring prevails in extras: Walk-off walk lifts Cougars past Liberty-Eylau in Texas 4A state baseball title

The Cougars beat nationally ranked Sinton in a UIL state record 12 innings in Wednesday's 4A semifinal

In the end, China Spring refused to run out of gas.

The day after beating nationally ranked Sinton in a Class 4A state record 12-inning semifinal, the Cougars outlasted Texarkana Liberty-Eylau 3-2 on a walk-off walk in another 12-inning bout to win the state championship on Thursday night at UFCU Disch Falk.

China Spring loaded the bases in the bottom of the 12th after six scoreless runs. That set up Trevor Black to score the title-winning run from third when sophomore Jacob Klement was walked.

Black drove in the game's first run — junior JC Hughes — in the bottom of the third on a triple to right center

Liberty Eylau put one run on in the fifth and tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth — sophomore Daylon Garton darted home on a fielder's choice tag out at second base.
