Mt. Spokane’s Aspyn Adams shines as Washington beats Oregon in 2019 Northwest Shootout (photos)

HILLSBORO, Ore. — In the final moment of her high school career, Mt. Spokane's Aspyn Adams was firing on all cylinders.

Adams, a Loyola Marymount commit, scored 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting to lead the Washington girls all-star team to a 94-82 win over Oregon on Saturday afternoon.

Adams was the event's MVP. On a day where she admitted "everything" was working for her offensively, the McDonalds All-American nominee and first team all-state selection doled out one final assist.

"I love my teammates, I've been playing against them for a long time, so it felt really good to finally play with them," Adams said. "They got me this. I can't hit any shots without passes."

The Washington team, comprised of eight Division I signees, built on its three-point halftime lead to pull away from Oregon late at Liberty High School.

Kentridge's JaQuaya Miller, a Washington commit, scored 13 points, Gig Harbor's Brynna Maxwell (Utah) and Eastlake's Mae Bryant (Grand Canyon) each scored 12 and Isabela Hernandez (San Diego State) added 10 for the Washington all-stars

Coached by Moses Lake's Matt Strophy, the Washington girls deployed a dribble-drive offense geared on getting multiple players involved. It worked. Five players scored in double figures.

Washington led by three at half, but Oregon opened the second charging. Aspen Slifka hit a 3 early in the second half to give the Oregon all-stars its first lead at 58-56.

Then Adams took over.

On consecutive possessions, the 5-foot-8 point guard hit a 3-pointer, then a converted a three-point play in transition off a steal from Kamiakin's Oumou Toure, a Butler commit.

Once Adams hit a deep 3, Strophy told the team in a timeout to get her the ball.

"Anybody that's hot you try to get the ball to," Adams said. "I was expecting Brynna to have that. But she wasn't hitting today and I did what I could. I hit one from pretty far back and I started putting them down after that one."

The performance was extra sweet for Adams given how the season ended — a two-point loss to Prairie in the 3A state championship. Additionally, Adams' team lost by one in the WIBCA all-state game.

"To get this one was great," Adams said. "My last high school game. I'm just really happy I got the win."
