It appears the Seattle Prep Panthers are getting the hang of his high-gear thing.

Led my Molly Moffitt's game-high 23 points, the Panthers left short-handed Class 3A champion Garfield behind, 74-32, on Friday night in the Bulldogs' gymnasium.

The Panthers' win snapped a six-game skid to Garfield, dating back to the 2018 season.

Tamia Stricklin added 13 points, and Gabby Stuart had 12 as the Panthers buried nine 3-pointers - seven coming in a near-flawless first half.

Moffitt, who eclipsed the 1,000-point mark (1,002) in the game, tallied 14 of her 23 points in the first quarter - and flicked in a corner 3-pointer to beat the quarter-ending buzzer to give Seattle Prep a 28-8 lead.

"Play fast helps you play with more enthusiasm," Seattle Prep girls coach Brian Elsner said. "We still feel like we've got a ways to go. We are not quite as fast as we want to be yet. But it is improving every game."

Moffitt got rolling early with four second-half buckets before coming out midway through the second half.

That is when she found out she had gotten her 1,000th career point, from her substitute - sister Megan.

"I am super hyped," Moffitt said. "I couldn't have done it without an amazing coach and all my phenomenal teammates."

In the Bulldogs' defense, they were without three projected starters, including talented ninth-grade point guard Katie Fiso, who are playing AAU this spring.

Sophomore point guard Navaeh Talbert and senior post player Deireee Lane were in uniform Friday. Talbert led the team with 12 points.

"It is challenging, but people have got to learn," Talbert said. "For me to be a leader, I have to teach. Hopefully next year, it will benefit us."
