Five-star offensive lineman reels in a double-double as No. 4 Vikings beat No. 12 Ferris in the opening round

TACOMA, Wash. — Rainier Beach's eye-popping run of 11 straight state quarterfinal appearances isn't lost on standout forward Josh Conerly.

But in state tournament week, when winning guarantees you live to see another day, Conerly's focus was zeroed in on his team's ultimate goal.

"Our goal isn't to get here," Conerly, a five-star offensive lineman, said. "It's to get to Saturday."

No. 4 Rainier Beach rode a 15-0 second half run to beat No. 12 Ferris 58-45 on Wednesday in the first round of the 3A state tournament at the Tacoma Dome. The win advanced the Vikings to a Thursday quarterfinal matchup with No. 6 Gig Harbor at 12:15 p.m.

Conerly finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Standout guard Nahmier Robinson paced the Vikings with a game-high 20 points.
