ALL-STATE FIRST TEAM

Forward: Alyson Deaver, Sumner, sr.

Alyson Deaver, Sumner girls basketball, class of 2022

In her first full season healthy, Sumner forward Alyson Deaver, a two-time 4A SPSL MVP, nearly led the school to its first state title.

Ask coaches to name the most challenging opposing player to match up against - Deaver would be on the short list. With her refined in-the-paint skill and endless motor, the two-time 4A SPSL player of the year (24.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 3.0 steals) was the most dominant interior player in the state. Signed at Dixie State.

Guard: Kyra Gardner, Raymond, sr.

Kyra Gardner, Raymond girls basketball, class of 2022

Raymond's Kyra Gardner was a nightly stat-stuffer who scored 1,906 career points, a school record.

Oh, that effortless elevation - and athleticism. No player was more poetry in motion than this small-school phenom, also a WSU point guard signee who was the Gatorade state player of the year. She can score at any level - and the two-time 2B Pacific MVP was unstoppable (26.7 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 7.0 steals; school-record 1,906 career points).

Guard: Malia Samuels, Garfield, jr.

Malia Samuels, Garfield girls basketball, class of 2023

After leading Eastside Catholic to the 3A semifinals in 2020, Malia Samuels settled in nicely in her first season at Garfield.

You could hear the collective groan around the state when Samuels decided to transfer to Garfield. Why? It's because the Bulldogs formed one of the best point-guard duos in the country. And with Katie Fiso handling more of the ball-handling duties, Samuels adjusted - and flourished (16.5 ppg, 6.3 apg, 6.1 steals, 3.4 rpg).

Guard: Veronica Sheffey, Woodinville, sr.

All-4A KingCo point guard Veronica Sheffey helped bring the gold ball to Woodinville for the first time in school history.

All-4A KingCo point guard Veronica Sheffey helped bring the gold ball to Woodinville for the first time in school history.

You don't always get a second chance. And the floor general for the Class 4A runner-up in 2020 led Woodinville's charge to a first state title this season. Calm, collected and strong, Sheffey (14.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.7 apg, 2.3 steals), a San Diego signee, leaves the program tops in career steals (246), and No. 2 in scoring (1,240) and assists (441).

Guard: Rosa Smith, Lake Washington, sr.

Some players just know how to make winning plays - and Rosa Smith, the 3A KingCo MVP, did for two-time Class 3A runner-up Lake Washington.

Some players just know how to make winning plays - and Rosa Smith, the 3A KingCo MVP, did for two-time Class 3A runner-up Lake Washington.

The consummate program leader, whatever the Kangs needed - she provided it as the team's unflappable point guard. And even though the cast was different, the 3A/2A KingCo player of the year (15.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 4.1 apg, 2.3 steals) led Lake Washington to the Class 3A title again, just like she did in 2019-20. University of Idaho signee.

ALL-STATE SECOND TEAM

Guard: Katie Fiso, Garfield, soph.

Katie Fiso, Garfield girls basketball, class of 2024

Blessed with next-level vision and passing ability, Garfield's Katie Fiso is the highest-ranked recruit nationally in the state of Washington.

Metro League first-team point guard did not disappoint in her first season (16.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.1 steals, 2.9 assists) as best two-way facilitator in the state.

Guard: Natalie Fraley, Kelso, sr.

Natalie Fraley, Kelso girls basketball, class of 2022

Kelso's Natalie Fraley was the top playmaker in the southwest Washington, averaging 24.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

"Nat Buckets" - a Utah State signee - was simply unstoppable, and the best scoring point guard in the state (24.2 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 5.8 steals, 4.5 apg).

Guard: Dylan Philip, Ellensburg, sr.

Dylan Philip, Ellensburg girls basketball, class of 2022

Before heading off to Montana, Dylan Philip scored a grand total of 1,446 points for Ellensburg, and was this year's 2A CWAC player of the year.

On a team that fed off its defense, this dynamo headed to Montana State ignited the attack on both ends (15.5 ppg, school-record 162 made FG; 1,446 career points).

Guard: Libby Stump, Lynden Christian, sr.

Libby Stump, Lynden Christian girls basketball, class of 2022

This Montana signee scored 35 points, including game-winning basket, to lead Lyncs to Class 1A title over Nooksack Valley.

Some just have the clutch gene - and Stump (19.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, 2.0 steals) does. Few will forget Montana signee's dominant 1A title game performance.

Forward: Jenna Villa, Arlington, jr.

Jenna Villa, Arlington girls basketball, class of 2023

The 3A Wesco MVP has the tenacity to dominate the interior - and the range to fill it up from deep on the perimeter.

Ah, that quick trigger. If you give Villa (21.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, 3.0 steals; 36% 3-point FG) any room to see the basket from deep, she will fire away. Dangerous scorer.
