Rainier Beach's Joshua Conerly Jr. commits to Oregon Ducks football as late 2022 addition
The Oregon Ducks got a big - and very welcome - surprise on Friday night.
Rainier Beach's Joshua Conerly Jr. took it to the wire - and beyond - before announcing he will sign with Oregon over USC during a ceremony in his high school gymnasium. (Watch him announce his commitment in the video above.)
Other finalists included Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma and Washington.
Conerly was SBLive's Washington state offensive lineman of the year - and later named the Anthony Munoz Award winner for national offensive lineman of the year.
But Conerly's long journey added a late twist - a late visit to Oregon obviously sealed the deal.
The Trojans were long thought to be the clear favorite, but there was some uncertainty that the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder might switch in the final hour. And switch he did.
Conerly's late commitment to Oregon meant that the deep crop of in-state offensive linemen in this class all crossed off the hometown Huskies.
They include Puyallup's David Iuli (Oregon), Beamer's Malik Agbo (Texas), O'Dea's Mark Nabou (Texas A&M), Graham-Kapowsin's Vega Ioane (Penn State), Bothell's Luka Vincic (Oregon State) and Napavine's Keith Olson (Utah).
