As a freshman in graphic arts class at Highline High School (Washington), Marquawn McCraney was tasked with creating an eye-catching visual design.

Hoping to manifest his goal of becoming a Power 5 conference football player, McCraney came up with a marketing moniker of sorts.

“D1 Quawn.”

Not only did he do well on the assignment, but his dream quickly came to fruition.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver/safety, out of Burien, Washington, has already generated scholarship offers from California, Utah and Washington.

“I had been putting in so much work," McCraney said. "I knew it was going to come eventually. Whether it came this year, next year, senior year, I was hoping and thinking it would come soon because I’d been putting in so much work.”

His latest offer was secured this weekend during an unofficial visit to Oregon State University.

It was a trip that left an impression.

“It was good," McCraney said. "The coaches were really nice and welcoming. The facilities were really nice. We got to tour the weight room and the field. We also got to watch the practice. It was live. The team was really involved. It was really nice to be out there.”

The Washington product also took a trip to Eugene to check out the University of Oregon.

“Oregon was really nice," he said. "It was beautiful. The facilities are nice — their field, their stadium their practice field was nice. I got to see the player’s lounge. You can see their dominance all over the school.”

McCraney, rated the nation's No. 12 safety in 2024, hasn't yet gotten an offer from the Ducks, but hopes one will come in time.

He's considering a trip to Oregon later this month for the spring game, and would also like to return to the University of Washington meet the new coaching staff, which already offered him a scholarship.

“I haven’t gotten a chance to meet the new staff," McCraney said "I took a visit there before the new staff got there, so I’m definitely looking forward to going there again to meet them.”

Regardless of his next stop, he's already realized one of his dreams.

To become "D1 Quawn."
