MLB Draft 2022: Bainbridge pitcher JR Ritchie selected No. 35 overall by the Atlanta Braves

The top overall prospect in Washington goes to the Braves in the supplemental portion of the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft

The Atlanta Braves certainly made right-handed pitcher JR Ritchie's last-minute change of plans worth it for the 2022 MLB Draft.

The Braves selected Ritchie with the No. 35 overall pick - a first-round supplemental selection - on Sunday night.

This came on the heels of pitching-rich Atlanta selecting Illinois teenager Owen Murphy with the 20th pick overall.

This week, because Ritchie's draft stock continued to rise, MLB officials invited the Bainbridge High School standout to attend the MLB Draft in person in Los Angeles, which he accepted.

Ritchie is committed to UCLA.

What MLB Draft analyst Christopher Crawford says: "It's a very good fit. They are one of the best developers of pitching in the sport. He has a chance to work out some of the mechanical kinks and develop into a mid-rotation starter - or better."
