Little brother ... not this season.

In what might be the biggest upset of Week 5, seventh-ranked W.F. West beat perennial 2A Evergreen Conference powerhouse Tumwater, which is ranked No. 2 in the state.

And the Bearcats did so in dominating fashion with a 28-7 win at Tumwater Stadium.

"Hats off to Tumwater, they're a great football program, but our team and our boys were ready to go tonight and we played a great game," W.F. West coach Dan Hill said. "Since 2009, it's been a long time coming, but these boys have put in a huge amount of work over the course of their high school careers and these last 11 months they've dedicated themselves to this football team and buying in to being a championship team."

Senior quarterback Gavin Fugate had an incredible night for W.F. West completing 15 of his 25 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns. The Bearcats also got a big game from their sophomore wide receiver Gage Brumfield, who hauled in seven passes for 111 yards and a score.

SUMNER CREATES MORE 4A SPSL CHAOS

Coming into Friday's game against Graham-Kapowsin, five teams were tied for first place in the 4A SPSL.

Sumner coach Keith Ross said he's never experienced anything like it in his time as head coach.

"We went undefeated my first year, Graham-Kapowsin has dominated, Puyallup dominated for a couple of years – there was always just a clear frontrunner," Ross said. "It's crazy. Every week, you're in for a dogfight in this league."

It was a back-and-forth battle from the first whistle to the last between the Spartans and Eagles, but Sumner came out on top in the end, 34-31, with junior Matthew Spurbeck being the X-factor.

Graham-Kapowsin couldn't find an answer for Spurbeck as he racked up a career-high 279 yards on the ground to go with two touchdowns for the Spartans.

Spurbeck's 41-yard rushing touchdown with six minutes left in the game put Sumner up by two scores and the Spartans held on after an onside kick recovery with a three-point lead.

"He was the key to the game with our o-line and running game," Ross said.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC CONTINUES TO ROLL

After a Week 1 loss to Eastside Catholic, Kennedy Catholic is right back where it belongs.

A 40-8 win over Federal Way capitalized the Lancers' fourth consecutive blowout win.

"We think Federal Way is one of the most talented teams in the state and to go in there and play really well – our defense played great all night and that was the biggest thing," Kennedy Catholic coach Sheldon Cross said. "They were inside the five multiple times all night and we just kept stopping them and kept stopping them."

If not for a Federal Way touchdown with eight seconds remaining in the game, the Lancers were on their way to back-to-back shutouts.

Senior Xe'ree Alexander caused multiple turnovers for the Lancers on defense and scored two touchdowns on the other side of the ball. Freshman Dante Saladino recorded two interceptions and multiple pass breakups.
