How SBLive’s Top 25 Washington high school football teams fared, Week 6: Yelm, Eastside Catholic, Glacier Peak locked in at top

Top three teams in rankings win by combined score of 148-32

Each week, SBLive ranks the top 25 teams across the state of Washington, regardless of classification. Here’s a look at how those teams fared in games played in Week 6 of the 2022 high school football season.

HOW THE TOP 25 FARED — OCT. 8

1. YELM TORNADOS 6-0 (3A) beat Capital, 71-0

It's feasting time in the 3A SSC! Seven different players scored touchdowns in win, and LB Ray Wright (two sacks, four TFL) continues to impress - with little fanfare.

2. EASTSIDE CATHOLIC CRUSADERS 6-0 beat No. 17 Garfield, 30-10

They've been there - many, many times. And this is a program that knows how to handle challenges, especially emerging QB Brady McKelheer (two second-half TDs).

3. GLACIER PEAK GRIZZLIES 5-1 (4A) beat Kamiak, 47-22 (Sat.)

RB Ryan King's first-quarter flash of dominance: Ten-yard touchdown catch, followed by an interception on defense and finally a 45-yard run to set up another score.

4. BELLEVUE WOLVERINES 4-2 (3A) beat Juanita, 44-13 (Sat.)

This week's last game played ended a run of four consecutive shutouts in the series - but the Wolverines did lead 34-0 at halftime. Rolling to another 3A KingCo title.

5. O'DEA FIGHTING IRISH 5-1 (3A) beat Roosevelt, 38-0

That is three shutouts in the past four games for Monte Kohler's crew, which has important games down the stretch in hopes of likely nabbing Metro's No. 2 seed.

6. EMERALD RIDGE JAGUARS 5-1 (4A) beat Bethel, 28-7

Breakout WR Gio Kafentzis (six catches, 100 yards, two first-half TDs) isn't quite getting Denzel Boston treatment by defenses on outside - but that should change.

7. LYNDEN LIONS 6-0 (2A) beat Archbishop Murphy, 49-24

Five different players scored for the Lions - and all 49 points came in first half. WR Troy Petz (two TDs) and QB Brant Heppner (three TDs) with big games for Lynden.

8. GONZAGA PREP BULLPUPS 5-1 (4A) beat University, 52-12 (Thu.)

Reigning GSL champions fire up big-play attack behind RBs Nick Bankey (54-yard TD run) and Sam Ohman (76-yard TD run) as part of three 100-yard rushers in win.

9. LAKE STEVENS VIKINGS 4-2 (4A) beat No. 18 Eastlake, 41-16

World just seems brighter - and the offense runs smoother - when RB Jayden Limar (180 rushing yards, five TDs) is himself (and healthy). Dominated good team at home.

10. LINCOLN ABES 6-0 (3A) beat Stadium, 49-6 (Sat.)

One of the state's oldest rivalries continues to be one-sided as QB Gabarri Johnson accounts for all seven touchdowns with 424 yards total offense in three quarters.

11. KENNEDY CATHOLIC LANCERS 5-1 (4A) beat Kentridge, 56-14 (Sat.)

Passing duo of Devon Forehand and Payton Faker combined for 432 yards and seven touchdowns - and six different pass catchers scored. Now that's called a party.

12. SUMNER SPARTANS 5-1 (4A) beat Rogers of Puyallup, 54-3 (Thu.)

Offense was flying high in 4A SPSL matchup with QB Diego Collie tossing three touchdowns, two of them to WR Austin Cook, in easy victory.

13. LAKES LANCERS 5-0 (3A) beat Battle Ground, 52-7 (Sat.)

All it took was 15 seconds for Lakes to get the fun started - on RB Leo Pulalasi's 60-yard touchdown run (one of four TDs in game) on first play from scrimmage.

14. CHIAWANA RIVERHAWKS 6-0 (4A) beat Hermiston, 53-14 (Thu.)

Momentous first five minutes (two DJ Duran TD passes, three turnovers by defense) for the MCC leaders, who make it an easy night across border.

15. MONROE BEARCATS 6-0 (3A) beat Shorewood, 62-8

QB Blake Springer (191 yards, three TD passes) and RB Beau Pruett (185 yards, three TD runs) team up to overload the stat sheet in another lopsided 3A Wesco win.

16. PUYALLUP VIKINGS 5-1 (4A) beat Olympia, 29-24 (Thu.)

WR Malachi Durant (46-yard, 70-yard TD catches) is quickly developing into one of the premier playmakers not only in 4A SPSL, but in the entire state.

17. GARFIELD BULLDOGS 5-1 (3A) lose to No. 2 Eastside Catholic, 30-10

Have to remember - this is largely a young nucleus Reggie Witherspoon has. And for a half, Bulldogs were better team - running efficiently behind QB EJ Caminong.

18. EASTLAKE WOLVES 4-2 (4A) lose to No. 9 Lake Stevens, 41-16

Got off to a great start, marching 80 yards for early touchdown on QB Cole Hunt's 34-yard strike to WR Grady Woodward. But bad tackling led to quick unraveling.

19. STANWOOD SPARTANS 6-0 (4A) beat Union, 69-40

Turned out to be a track meet in Vancouver. RB/LB Carson Beckt (287 all-purpose yards, five TDs) had rushing, receiving and defensive score for visiting Spartans.

20. SKYVIEW STORM 5-1 (4A) beat Kentwood, 41-7

Four second-quarter scores by the Storm put things out of reach while the defense limited Kentwood to an abysmal 107 yards of offense.

21. KENNEWICK LIONS 5-1 (3A) beat No. 24 Richland, 19-7

Good response after last week's sloppy showing. QB Andre Breedlove (two TD runs) finishes off Bombers with his 10-yard touchdown scamper with 61/2 minutes to go.

22. RAINIER BEACH VIKINGS 5-1 (3A) beat Bishop Blanchet, 58-28 (Sat.)

QB Chance Guadiz throws a pair of touchdown passes in the first 14 minutes as Vikings build 23-0 lead and cruise to Metro victory at Mickey Naish Field.

23. GRAHAM-KAPOWSIN EAGLES 4-2 (4A) beat Curtis, 24-19 (Sat.)

WR Jabez Woods has knack for timely big-play touchdown catches - and did it again Saturday with late 65-yarder from QB Daveon Superales to put Vikings away.

24. RICHLAND BOMBERS 4-2 (4A) lose to No. 21 Kennewick, 19-7

Uneven year by preseason MCC favorites, who flash perimeter firepower in spurts (like Josh Woodard's 35-yard TD pass to Seth Shook). Still can clinch No. 2 seed.

25. NORTH KITSAP VIKINGS 5-1 (2A) beat Kingston, 49-6

Run of three consecutive shutouts is over, but Vikings' stranglehold of Olympic League is not. QB Cole Edwards (152 passing yards, two TDs) has smooth showing.
