WASHINGTON NOMINEES

Shaela Allen-Greggs, Davis girls basketball: It took the post player’s from-her-knees outback off a missed free throw in the final seconds for the Pirates to win their first league title since 1988. She finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Davis defeated Sunnyside, 65-63.

Hayden Bennett, Kamiakin girls bowling: In the nearly two decades of the separate 4A tournament, no bowler had ever defender her crown - until Friday. Bennett rolled a six-game 1,162-pin total to edge Curtis’ Sienna Stoner by 23 pins at Bowlero in Tukwila.

Dawson Bouma, Lynden Christian boys basketball: Scored 11 of his team-high 16 in the first quarter against city rival and reigning Class 2A champion Lynden to spark the offense in a Northwest Conference win over the Lions.

Piper Chalmers, W.F. West girls bowling: It was a double whammy for the Bearcats, who saw their talented senior repeat as Class 2A/1A champion with a tournament-best 1,206 pins in six games. The school also captured its first WIAA bowling team title at Bowlero in Tukwila.

TyShawn Cordon, Steilacoom boys basketball: The Sentinels’ senior guard was on fire in a 2A SPSL game against Orting. He scored a school-record 44 points with nine rebounds and six steals in a win. The old record was 41 points, set by Kendrick Holley back in 2002.

Sam Empey, Union boys swimming: Won individual titles in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.03) and 100 butterfly (49.15) to go with a record-breaking bi-district 400 free relay title (3:10.68) at the Class 4A District 4-8 meet.

Brooklynn Haywood, Union girls basketball: For large parts of the Titans’ showdown against No. 1 Camas, the ninth grader was the best player on the court. She poured in a game-high 36 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including six 3-pointers, in a loss. She tallied 16 first-quarter points.

Lainee Houillon, Sumner girls basketball: Erupted for a game-high 24 points, including clutch free throws in the fourth quarter as the Spartans repeated as 4A SPSL champions with a victory over Emerald Ridge.

Maddy Jewett, Naches Valley girls basketball: Adding to her recent string of 20-point scoring outings, the sophomore forward registered her first career triple-double - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists - in a 1A SCAC victory over La Salle.

Lyla Kahrimanovic, Woodinville girls basketball: Days after being named an all-4A KingCo first-team forward, the junior scored a game-high 21 points in the league tournament semifinal win over Issaquah and tied for game-high honors (19 points) in the championship game triumph over Eastlake.

Derek Nordale, Mercer Island boys basketball: On ‘Senior Night’, the sharp-shooting guard set a school record with eight 3-pointers en route to a game-high 28 points (25 coming in first three quarters) in a 3A KingCo victory over Juanita. The Islanders will play for the league title.

Czar Quintanilla, University boys wrestling: The ninth grader and reigning Rocky Mountain Classic champion showed out in a big way, dominating in the Greater Spokane league tournament, pinning every opponent he faced on his way to a first-place finish in the 106-pound weight class.

Keirra Thompson, Camas girls basketball: When the team needed to dig out of a semi-deep first-quarter hole, the Papermakers turned to their sophomore leader. She scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including six 3-pointers, in the team’s 4A GSHL-clinching victory over Union.

Josh Woodard, Richland boys basketball: The night after leading the Bombers to the outright Mid-Columbia Conference title over Kamiakin, the junior eclipsed the career 1,000-point mark with 28 points in a win over Kennewick. He becomes the 16th player in program history to reach that total.
