With the 16-team field set for regional round of the 2022-23 WIAA Class 1B boys basketball tournament, here is SBLive WA’s weekend overview of the matchups, players to watch – and game score predictions:

CLASS 1B BOYS REGIONALS

TOP BILLING

Can Sunnyside Christian return to the high school basketball mountaintop for the first time since 2019? That run marked back-to-back-to-back titles for the Knights.

BEST BET TO SCORE 30

Moses Lake Christian's Jeff Boorman put up 30 last week against Riverside Christian and with the Lions feeling slighted by their No. 5 seed, Boorman just might do it again.

RIDE THIS DARKHORSE

Hard to dislike Sound Christian at No. 12 as two of the Lions' four losses have been close ones to teams seeded higher than them here.

PROTECTED-GAME PREVIEW CAPSULES

Wellpinit

No. 1 Wellpinit (22-1) vs. No. 8 Oakville (17-4)

2 p.m. Saturday, Cheney High School

Skinny: Wellpinit's ability to do damage from beyond the arc – and everywhere else on the floor – will be a tall task for Oakville.

Pick: Wellpinit, 67-56

____

No. 2 Sunnyside Christian (19-4) vs. No. 7 Cusick (19-4)

2 p.m. Saturday, Richland High School

Skinny: A timely win over DeSales in districts gave the Knights the second seed over the Irish. Up next? The defending champs in Cusick.

Pick: Sunnyside Christian, 64-58.

____

No. 3 DeSales (21-2) vs. No. 6 Lummi Nation (19-7)

4 p.m. Saturday, Richland High School

Skinny: Coasting until its district championship game last week, there's no reason to believe the Irish won't get back on track against a young Lummi squad.

Pick: DeSales, 58-49.

____

No. 4 Willapa Valley (18-5) vs. No. 5 Moses Lake Christian (18-3)

Noon Saturday, Tumwater High School

Skinny: Willapa Valley has co-league MVP Riley Pearson leading the way, but Moses Lake Christian has a chip on its shoulder after not grabbing a top-four seed.

Pick: Moses Lake Christian, 57-55

____

WINNER-TO-STATE-GAME PREVIEW CAPSULES

No. 9 Neah Bay (19-4) vs. No. 16 Orcas Island (19-9)

6 p.m. Saturday, Tacoma Community College

Skinny: All of Neah Bay's losses this season have been less by 10 points, so the Red Devils can hang with the best of them and should be moving on to Spokane.

Pick: Neah Bay, 66-53

____

No. 10 Mount Vernon Christian (20-6) vs. No. 15 Pomeroy (16-7)

Noon Saturday, Mount Vernon High School

Skinny: Before running into Neah Bay last week, the Hurricanes were cruising and should right the ship this weekend.

Pick: Mount Vernon Christian, 59-50

____

No. 11 Mossyrock (18-6) vs. No. 14 Columbia Adventist (14-9)

8 p.m. Saturday, W.F. West High School

Skinny: These two have played each other three times this season with a lopsided Mossyrock victory being the result each time.

Pick: Mossyrock, 71-59

____

No. 12 Sound Christian Academy (21-4) vs. No. 13 Riverside Christian (16-4)

10 a.m. Saturday, Tacoma Community College

Skinny: Riverside Christian has looked good recently being able to hang tough with Moses Lake Christian, but can the Crusaders keep it rolling?

Pick: Sound Christian, 68-64
