Mountlake Terrace hits an onslaught of 3-pointers to upend North Thurston in Class 3A state tournament

Hawks guard Chris Meegan gets the deep ball party started as Mountlake Terrace hit 11 3-pointers in win

Chris Meegan saw the first 3-pointer go down to start the second quarter. It began an onslaught from behind the arc for Mountlake Terrace on Wednesday evening.

“I told ‘em I was going to shoot it today,” Meegan said. “I didn’t want to lose. I saw the first one go down, and then the step-back. I don’t know. It was just good.”

Meegan’s 3-pointer was the first of six the Hawks made in the second quarter as they edged in front of North Thurston en route to a 58-53 victory in a loser-out game at the Tacoma Dome. Mountlake Terrace earned a 3:45 p.m. quarterfinal date with O’Dea on Thursday.

The Hawks made 11 shots from behind the arc in the game, but had to survive a big game from Thad TenKley for North Thurston to earn the victory.

A Rayshaun Connor 3-pointer put Mountlake Terrace in front, 48-42 with 6:21 to play in the game. Tenkley scored five of the Rams next seven during a 7-2 run that got North Thurston within one, 50-49, with 3:25 left.

It was as close as the Rams would get. TenKley finished with a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds. Meegan had 15 points to lead three Hawks in double figures.
