Eric Miller, Fort Vancouver baseball
After two seasons as an assistant, Miller was promoted to lead the program this spring. And with a lot of first-year players, the Trappers' perseverance paid off in spanning a 38-game losing streak, dating back to 2021. Luke Butterfield and Kaeleb Cvitkovich had three RBI apiece in an 8-5 win over Woodland.
Jason Hanson, Edmonds-Woodway boys soccer
The longtime Sno-King youth coach has done wonders for the Warriors in his first season at the helm. Not only did they come from behind in dramatic fashion to beat Everett, 4-3, in overtime to win their first 3A Wesco title in 20 years, the program completed an unbeaten regular season.
Paul Peters, Mead boys golf
He's been coaching golf at Mead for more than four decades, including the past 37 seasons as the head man. But he's announced at the end of the spring he will retire. His Panthers are trying to give him a swan-song year to remember by winning the 4A/3A GSL title.
Bruce Pocklington, Adna softball
The longtime Lewis County baseball and softball coach doesn't back down from too many challenges. So when Warden kept asking to play a non-league doubleheader, he and No. 1 Adna obliged. The Pirates went to No. 2 Warden and swept the Class 2B showdown, 11-9 and 15-0 (five innings). They are now 14-2.
Ryan Sells, Mountlake Terrace baseball
Heading into the Class 3A District 1 tournament as the No. 9 seed, Mountlake Terrace pulled off a huge upset last week, taking down top-seeded Snohomish, 6-1, in a quarterfinal matchup. The win keeps Sells’ Hawks out of a loser-out game next round and one win away from a state berth.
