WASHINGTON NOMINEES

Candice Adams, Battle Ground softball: It was a big week at the plate for the Tigers' slugger in four wins. She had two doubles and three RBI in a 4A GSHL sweep of Camas. She blasted a home run with five RBI in a win over Kelso. And she hit another home run with two RBI against 2A No. 1 Ridgefield.

Braelyn Baker, Bear Creek girls track and field: The junior continues to show why she is arguably the best female sprinter in the state. In a league meet at Granite Falls, Baker ran a personal-best 55.20 seconds in the 400-meter dash in jus her fifth career start in the race. It is the top time in the state by more than a second.

Finley Caringer, Skyline softball: As the Spartans wrapped up the No. 2 seed from the 4A KingCo, their senior captain finished up the regular season strong - 6-for-10 with six runs scores and two stolen bases. She enters the postseason with a .431 batting average.

Layna Demers, Rochester softball: If the Warriors were going to make up ground in the 2A EvCo, it had to come against the league powerhouses. They did as Demers not only notched pitching victories against defending state champion Tumwater and W.F. West, she smacked home runs in each game on offense.

JaiCieonna Gero-Holt, Emerald Ridge girls track and field: She is already the top multi-event high school athlete in WIAA history, but the sophomore continues to sharpen her marks. In a 4A SPSL tri-meet at Curtis High School, she won the shot put with a personal-best mark of 43 feet, 6 inches - No. 3 overall in the state.

Kai Halstead, Puyallup baseball: In a matchup of arguably the two best catching prospects in Washington with Tahoma's Carson Ohland, this Stanford commit had a pickoff at first base, threw out a baserunner at second base - and came through with the game-tying RBI single (of his two hits) in the Vikings' 4-2 victory.

Ben Hanson, Edmonds-Woodway boys soccer: With his team in a must-win situation to claim its first 3A Wesco title in two decades, Hanson delivered the game-tying goal in the 76th minute, then recorded the clinching free-kick assist on Kincaid Sund's overtime goal in a win over Everett.

Alli Kimball, Peninsula softball: The two-time 3A SSC pitcher of the year struck out 30 of the 49 hitters faced while giving up just five hits (14 IP). She also pitched a no-hitter against league runner-up Timberline. Also drove in seven runs on offense.

Brody Mills, West Valley of Yakima baseball: Was a thorn in the side of 4A CBBN rival Moses Lake in three games. The UW signee pitched six scoreless innings (nine strikeouts) and hit two doubles in an 8-0 home win. Then at Big Bend CC, he was 3-for-4 with two RBI in 7-0 win, and had another RBI single in a 5-1 win.

Benjamin Mulder, Mead boys golf: Not only did the Northwest Nazarene signee help lead the Panthers to the Greater Spokane League team title, he did it in record-setting fashion. Mulder carded a career-low 8-under-par 62 at Windermere Golf Course to win league MVP honors. Two weeks ago, he shot 65 in during a GSL match in Colville.

Tristan Percival, Adna baseball: It was quite a Saturday for the standout in the team's two district games. Percival drove in four runs and scored three times in the Pirates' win over Rainier. And against Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning while striking out 13 hitters in a win.

Jessica Waters, Mount Spokane softball: She is already arguably the most productive hitter to ever come out of the program - and showed why during the Wildcats' run to the 4A/3A GSL title. She was 4-for-5 with six RBI (and a home run) in a win over Ridgeline, then hit the go-ahead two-run home run to clinch the title with a win over University.
