Ayanna Arceneaux, Emerald Ridge softball

In her return to her alma mater, Arceneaux hit all the right notes in leading the Jaguars past Sumner in their season finale to not only earn a share of the 4A SPSL title, but grab the league's No. 1 seed to the bi-district playoffs. Last time that happened? It was 2012-13 - when she was a ninth grader before eventually going off to WOU.

Rick Maloy, Tahoma boys soccer

Given that his 4A NPSL championship-winning Bears just beat three 4A SPSL teams consecutively (including the past two WIAA champions, Puyallup and Bellarmine Prep) to win the Class 4A District 3/4 title, Maloy and the boys get a big shoutout. They play the level of defense to win their first state title.

Arch McHie, Walla Walla softball

For what the reigning state runner-up has faced this spring, on and off the field, the fact the sixth-seeded Blue Devils - who started the season 1-11 - not only clinched two wins and a spot out their District 8 tournament to get back to the WIAA playoffs, but will also play for the district title is truly remarkable.

Jacob Mortensen, Toppenish baseball

The Yakima native has accomplished plenty in his two seasons leading the program, He's led the Wildcats to back-to-back Class 1A district tournaments, and on Friday, the 1A SCAC West coach of the year's squad clinched its first WIAA playoff trip in 25 years with an 8-3 victory over La Salle.

Greg Peavey, Hudson's Bay baseball

Another baseball program that has snapped a long state-tournament drought, The Eagles are going to the Class 2A tournament after their 11-4 win over Ridgefield (beating the team that knocked them out a year ago). Last time? It was 2006 - when Peavey was a junior on the team.
