Walla Walla softball player Sidney McCauley voted WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Walla Walla's Sidney McCauley for being voted SBLive’s WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week for May 15-May 20!
When the Blue Devils needed a lift toward winning the Class 3A District 8 championship, McCauley provided it with her bat. The senior infielder socked a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning, and the No. 6 seeds edged 4A/3A Greater Spokane League winner Mount Spokane, 4-2, in the championship game in Walla Walla.
McCauley received 52.3% of the vote, beating out Ocosta softball pitcher Jessie Gilbert, who finished second with 45.3%.

WASHINGTON NOMINEES
Jacob Andrews, Sehome boys track and field: Can he challenge Tyler Floyd's all-time Washington record of 21.01 seconds in the 200-meter dash? The senior came pretty close at the Class 2A District I championships, recording a season-best 21.05 to take over the top spot in 2023. His career-low is 21.02, set last summer.
Braelyn Baker, Bear Creek girls track and field: New meet, same result - a personal-best mark for the speedster. The junior won the Class 1A bi-district 200-meter dash in 23.61 seconds (all-time junior-class record is 23.44). She won four events at the meet.
Jessie Gilbert, Ocosta softball: Posted one of the most impressive postseason tournament runs in recent memory at the Class 2B District 4 tournament. She pitched three consecutive no-hitters, then a one-hitter against No. 1 Adna in the title game, striking out 15 batters in a 3-0 win. She also hit a home run against the Pirates.
Alex Harris, Columbia River boys soccer: Nobody can stop the reigning Gatorade player of the year from scoring goals. He tallied a pair of first-half goals (and assist) in a 3-0 first-round victory over Foster, then had a hat trick in the team's 3-0 state quarterfinal win over East Valley of Yakima. Has 10 goals in his past four playoff games.
Conrad Henkel, Tahoma baseball: Lowered the boom in the Class 4A regionals with a grand slam during a six-run third inning in a 10-0 win over Skyline, then went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI in the Bears' 5-0 win over defending state champion Olympia to reach the final four.
Andre Korbmacher, Squalicum boys track and field: Focusing on just two events because of lingering hamstring issues, the FSU signee ripped off a season-best 13.55-second time in the 110-meter hurdles at the Class 2A District I championships, which ranks No. 6 in the nation this spring. His career-best (13.44) is state's all-time record.
Brooke Lyons, Tahoma girls track and field: Bears' standout recorded the best 400-meter dash time (55.01 seconds) in the state since 2018 in the finals at the Class 4A District 3/4 championships in Kent. Also had a personal-best 24.71 in the 200, and swept the sprints' titles.
Dylan Skolfield, Eastlake baseball: A year ago, this WSU pledge was down in the dumps after giving up four runs to Puyallup in a regionals loss. Not this year. The right-hander pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out four hitters in the Wolves' 5-0 Class 4A quarterfinal victory over Kamiakin.
Kyra Smith, Puyallup softball: Slugging third baseman could not be stopped at the Class 4A District 3/4 tournament in Kent. She crushed two home runs in the team's semifinal win over Rogers of Puyallup, then belted a solo blast in the fifth inning of the Vikings' title-game win over Emerald Ridge.
