Vote: Who should be SBLive's Upper Weight National Wrestler of the Week (2/27/2024)?

Here are nine wrestlers for your voting consideration

It's time once again for you to help us decide who is SBLive Sports National High School Upper Weight Wrestler of the Week.

Below are the details on the candidates we have selected for your consideration. Share this post with your friends, family, teammates and classmates and encourage everyone to support the wrestler they find most deserving. You can vote as often as you like and the winner will be announced in next week's poll. Voting ends on Sunday, March 3rd at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific).

Congratulations to last week's winner: Leimana Fager of Corner Canyon (Utah).

Here are this week's nominees:

Jack Consiglio (Malvern Prep, PA) 144 – No. 2 Consiglio is nominated not because of a surprise win or anything like that, but because he just won his third National Prep Championship with a 2-1 win over No. 7 Logan Rozynski. The title is his second straight after being first as a freshman, then finishing second as a sophomore.

Moses Mirabal (Gilroy, CA) 144 – Mirabal is No. 24 in our 144lb rankings and faced No. 8 Joeph Toscano of Buchanan in the state finals, pulling off the unlikely upset, 2-1.

Luke Simcox (Central Mountain, PA) 145 – While it wasn’t the biggest upset since Simcox is ranked third in the nation, any time a No. 1 wrestler goes down, it’s worth noting. And that is exactly what happened in the finals of the AAA Northwest Region when Simcox went to the ultimate tiebreaker period and beat No. 1 Pierson Manville (State College), 3-2.

James Farina (Ocean Township, NJ) 150 – In the Region 6 finals, Farina got by honorable mention Jonathan Fuller (St. Peter Prep), 5-3.

Joseph Jeter (Edmond North, OK) 150 – Jeter is an honorable mention wrestler at 150lbs. He reached the 6A state finals and saw No. 10 Ismael Guerrero (Bixby), who he proceeded to beat 7-3.

Grigor Cholakyan (St. John Bosco, CA) 157 – No. 7 Cholakyan gained revenge over No. 6 Andrew Barbosa (Palm Desert) in Saturday’s state finals, 3-2. Barbosa downed Cholakyan 7-2 at the Doc Buchanan tournament in early January.

Joe Sealey (Wyoming Seminary, PA) 165 – Like Consiglio, Sealey is here because of his accomplishments more than who he beat to achieve them, although, Sealey’s 165lb bracket at the National Prep Tournament did feature six nationally ranked wrestlers to make it the most difficult weight class of the tournament. In the finals, Sealey handed No. 11 Emmitt Sherlock (Gilman, MD) a 10-2 major decision loss for his third consecutive NP title.

Vincent Lee (Delbarton, NJ) 215 – Lee is on the cusp of the national rankings but lacked a signature win to give him the juice to move into the rankings. That changed during Saturday's Region 5 Finals when Lee upset No. 24 Hudson Skove (Rumson-Fair Haven), 5-3.

Robert Platt (Poway, CA) 215 – To our knowledge, Platt (No. 11) has faced No. 10 Coby Merrill of JW North on three occasions. The first being in the state finals last year when Platt was at Brawley and Merrill wore the Gilroy singlet, with Merrill winning that meeting 3-1. Flash forward to this year with both wearing different uniforms in the Doc B finals where Merrill picked up another win over his rival, 3-2. The state finals came down to these two this weekend and Platt was finally able to come out on top, 2-1 in TB2.
