Congratulations to Hoover girls track and field star Laurin Mack for being voted SBLive’s Alabama High School Athlete of the Week for May 2-8!

The sophomore placed fourth in the Triple Jump with a jump of 35'6 at the 7A state meet. The Hoover girls track and field team also won a team state title in 7A.

Mack received 42.17% of the vote, beating out Winston County's Tyden Steele who finished second with 28.68%. Hewitt-Trussville's Sara Phillips finished third with 14.87% and Chelsea's Abby Hibbs finished fourth with 5.61%. There were over 66,000 votes tallied this week!

Here are the other athletes who were nominated for May 2-8:

Abby Hibbs, Chelsea softball: Hibbs went 7-for-10 in the area tournament with two doubles, six RBIs, and six runs scored. Including going a perfect 5-for-5 in the championship game against Mountain Brook.

Emily White, Westminster at Oak Mountain girls soccer: White scored the game-winning goal in the final three minutes of the game against Bayside Academy, to lift the Lady Knights to the Class 1A-3A Final Four.

Sara Phillips, Hewitt-Trussville softball: Phillips hit a walk-off home run to lift Hewitt-Trussville past Spain Park, 5-4, to claim the 7A Area 6 championship.

Emily Simon, Athens softball: Simon tossed a gem in the circle with four strikeouts and two hits allowed in six innings pitched in Athens' 11-1 win over Buckhorn in the area tournament. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a grand slam and six RBIs to lead Athens to a Class 6A Area 16 title over Hazel Green.

KJ Godwin, Pelham boys soccer: Godwin had six saves in the net in Pelham's 3-1 win in the 6A quarterfinals - advancing to the Final Four for the third year in a row.

Jay Avery, Hoover boys track and field: Avery won an individual state title and broke the school record in the Triple Jump with a jump of 49'1. The Hoover boys track and field team also took home a 7A state title.

Porter Speegle, Vestavia Hills boys track and field: Speegle landed a season-best in the shot put with a mark of 47'03 to finish seventh place and secure all-state at the state meet.

Tristan Wisner, Hartselle boys golf: Wisner captured low medalist with a score of 68 at the Class 6A North Sub-State tournament to earn an individual berth in the state tournament.

Jacob Fox, Shelby County baseball: Fox tossed a complete-game with 10 strikeouts and only allowed one unearned run on five hits in a 2-1 game two Elite Eight series win over Headland.

Tyden Steele, Winston County boys golf: The seventh-grader was the low medalist with a score of 72 at North Sub-State, and also placed first at the Northwest Sectional tournament earning a berth to the high school state tournament.
