Highlights: Tari Eason, Garfield dismantle reigning champion O'Dea to win 2020 3A boys basketball state title
TACOMA — Tari Eason and Garfield shut down class of 2021 standout Paolo Banchero and O'Dea 69-44 Saturday night to win their second WIAA 3A boys basketball state championship in three years.
Four Garfield players scored in double figures: Eason (21), Koren Johnson (16), Jaylin Stewart (11) and Kendall Munson (10) combined for 58 of the Bulldogs' 69 points.
Garfield's defense was stifling from the jump and limited touches and open looks to Banchero, who scored 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field. No other Irish player scored in double figures.
The state championship for Garfield is their third in six years and head coach Brandon Roy's third in four years (the first came with Nathan Hale in 2017).
