Who is in the Nike Hoop Summit? Bronny James, Juju Watkins headline 2023 showcase

Bronny James, Isaiah Collier, Juju Watkins headline the 24th annual showcase

PORTLAND, Oregon — The Nike Hoop Summit, a prestigious week-long event that pits the nation's top high school seniors against the top under-19 talent from around the world, has returned to the Rose City.

Team USA will battle the World Team on Saturday at the Moda Center in Portland after a week of practices and scrimmages in front of NBA scouts, executives and media. The inaugural women's game tips at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time and the boys game follows at 7 p.m. and will air on NBA TV.

The event comes with a decorated history. Since its inception, some 219 participants have gone on to become NBA Draft picks and 35 have become NBA All-Stars and five have been NBA Finals MVPs: Kevin Garnett (2004), Dirk Nowitzki (2007), Derrick Rose (2011), Kevin Durant (2014 and Nikola Jokic (2021).

More Hoop Summit coverage

The Hoop Summit is the latest in a busy stretch for the nation's top senior prospects. Last week, the Camden standout guard and Kentucky commit led Team East boys and Sierra Canyon's Juju Watkins led Team West girls to wins in the McDonald's All-American Game.

Baylor signee Ja'Kobe Walter and Link Academy won their first GEICO Nationals boys championship and fellow Baylor pledge Letycia Vasconcelos (World Team-Brazil) helped Montverde Academy win the girls championship on Saturday in Fort Myers, Florida.

Wagner turned around and led Camden to the finals of the inaugural The Throne tournament in Atlanta.

Though Blake Buchanan, James and Shelstad will be making their first USA Basketball appearance, many in attendance have donned red, white and blue before.

Eric Dailey Jr. (Oklahoma State) and Jared McCain (Duke) helped the U18 National Team win gold at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships last year. Holland, Stewart and Wagner were all members of the U17 National Team that placed first at the 2022 World Cup. Shelstad was selected to compete against the 2022 Hoop Summit USA team in a scrimmage at the Moda Center.

It will be a return trip to Oregon for Bronny James and Ron Holland, who participated in December’s Les Schwab Invitational. Both faced off against Jackson Shelstad, who led the hometown West Linn Lions to victories over James’ Sierra Canyon and Holland’s Duncanville en route to the tournament title.
