Top 50 Southern California high school boys basketball teams countdown: Nos. 35-31

With the 2019-20 high school basketball season tipping off the week of Nov. 18, Scorebook Live California is previewing the Top 50 boys basketball teams in Southern California. Our Top 50 list spans the Southern, L.A. City and San Diego Sections.

Here are numbers 35 to 31 in our team rankings.

35. Eastvale Roosevelt Mustangs | 2019-20 schedule

Head coach: Stephen Singleton

Last year’s record: 12-15

Division: Southern Section Division 2AA

Top player: "G" Little

Outlook: Roosevelt is solid defensively on the ball and has a good mix of scorers with junior guard Godfrey “G” Little, sophomore guard CJ Bellamy and senior guard Brandon Porter. Senior forward Luke Guzman is an inside-out scoring threat as well. Roosevelt will challenge Corona Centennial for the Big VIII League title.

34. Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders | 2019-20 schedule

Head coach: Jason Bryant

Last year’s record: 17-12

Division: San Diego Section Division 1

Top player: Melo Sanchez

Outlook: The Crusaders will feature San Diego’s biggest frontline with Maximus Lane, Christian Ubochi, and Dexter Stratton all standing at 6’8” or taller. Junior guard Melo Sanchez should be in for a huge season with sophomore point guard Jessie Campbell running the offense and looking to improve on his freshman campaign. Mater Dei Catholic was eliminated in the D1 quarterfinals last season, but they look to be among the favorites to grab a spot in this year’s Open Division bracket.

33. St. Anthony Saints | 2019-20 schedule

Head coach: Allen Caveness

Last year’s record: 21-8

Division: Southern Section Division 1

Top player: Jadon Jones

Outlook: Jadon Jones and Gorden Boykins are the two St Anthony returners. Lorenzo Marsh, Kaih Williams & Elijah Price will all contribute in 2019-2020 as well. Here's head coach Allen Caveness' breakdown of his team:

"We're an uptempo team that tries to dictate pace on both ends of the floor. We're a hard working, unselfish and tough team, that believes in preparation."

St. Anthony makes the jump to Division 1 this year. They've made at least the quarterfinal round of the CIF playoffs in each of the last three years.

32. Valencia Vikings | 2019-20 schedule

Head coach: Bill Bedgood

Last year’s record: 26-8

Division: Southern Section Division 1

Top player: Jake Hlywiak

Outlook: Valencia has one of the best sharpshooters in the region in Jake Hlywiak. Pair him with junior guard Noah Veluzat and you get a lethal backcourt. JR Camacho transferred to Valencia from Maranatha this offseason and has had a great fall with the Vikings. He won't be eligible until December 29th due to his transfer though. Camacho will suit up just in time for Valencia to defend its Foothill League title from a year ago.

31. Santa Monica Vikings | 2019-20 schedule

Head coach: James Hecht

Last year’s record: 21-8

Division: Southern Section Division 2AA

Top player: Quincy McGriff

Outlook: Quincy McGriff committed to UTEP this offseason. He's poised for a big senior year from the shooting guard spot. Senior guard Malachi Jones is another reliable scoring option as are underclassmen Daniel Michelini-Jackson, a point guard, and Tanner Clark, a small forward. Look for Santa Monica to challenge for the Ocean League championship this season with Beverly Hills as their main competition.
